Was just wondering if anyone else out there made it to the concert.Remember cracking sets from The Fall,OMD and the Smiths then New Order stealing the show(also remember Paul Morley pushing in front of me at the bar)but cant really remember any of the other bands there.Also Bill Grundy made a bit of a speech about the Sex Pistols.Great day!!!!

been through this one recently i remembered similar to you-fall,omd,smiths,new order. never really found out where pete shelley fitted into it all
John Cale was also on, I remember a drawn out version of heartbreak hotel. Frank Sidebottom made a very brief appearance but quickly withdrew behind the curtains after a flying bottle nearly caved his head in.
has anyone got a good quality cd of new order and the smiths sets from the festval of the tenth summer gig
I made it there also. In addition to the above, I also remember sets from John Cale, Howard Devoto and Virgin Prunes (New Order and The Smiths could not come on stage quick enough for me)
I will try to find my recording of New Order for you. You might want to also hunt down a copy of the Solitude bootleg album which features the gig.
Yeah, I was there - great day, my most enjoyable non-footballing visit to M/cr....
I used to have a very dodgy cassette of New Order's set, but it's long gone - so, Solitude, if you wouldn't mind I'd love a copy of that gig?
I don't have anything to offer in exchange, I'm afraid, apart from gratitude and a few beers if you ever visit East Yorkshire!

I was there! Stayed at the YMCA nearby. Was at the back of the venue the night before listening to NOs soundcheck. Remember John Cale playing. Gillian in the crowd for that. The Fall at their best in my view. Played a lot off Bend Sinister and This Nations Saving Grace. Brix looking so cool with a Rickenbacker. OMD were embarrassing. NO a bit predictable apart from Bunny Mac doing Ceremony and getting the timing wrong a bit. I think I recall him reading words off notes? Lot of strange rivalry between Smiths and NO fans. I think Smiths fans were miffed NO "headlined". The Smiths were massive at that time while NO`s star had fallen a bit. Got the massive poster and white T shirt.
Does anyone remember somebody attempting to attack the lead singer of O.M.D. with a metal beer tray mid-song? And Ian Mac. of the bunnymen singing on ceremony, ah, happy days, seems like a lifetime ago!

Yeah,I was at the FESTIVAL Of The TENTH SUMMER.Bloody great,OMD with their "Winston" 8 track in the background, SMITHS with Morrissey brandishing his Queen Is Dead placard,NO..excellent.Pete Shelley in his new band at the time ZAP! The Fall,Derek Hatton in plaster and on crutches,heh heh,Bill Grundy..and who could forget John Cooper Clarke,who had me in stitches. Remember sneaking through the barrier to get to front stage bit,which was great,until I wanted a beer. Borrowed a ticket from some stranger to get back into the enclosure,and he gave me money to get a couple of drinks for him. Only the bouncers wouldn't let beer in.So sorry mate,I'd didn't nick your money,but I necked four pints to get back in and couldn't find you. What a pisshead me!
