Driving over after work and then back after so it'll probably be the curry mile followed by a couple in the Apsley Cottage I'm afraid.

A Saturday night in December somewhere reasonably accessible sounds far better for a NOOL piss up. Two more for the 10th I think.

Whichever is nearest to the airport - or failing that, within staggering distance of the gig!

difficult choice, as I'm gonig to be in Uni that day I'm inclined to vote for Joshua Brookes, but having said that its not really my favourite place to go.

Whats that place called opposite taxi rank at picadilly. I walked past it every day for a year, and can never remember its name.

i am staying 100 yards from old monkey pub so would of course be easy for me however i'd go for moon over water for the cheap drinks the thing is,would there be different meet up places for early people and later people? opps i am confusing matters

The Wetherspoons in Piccadily is quite big,nowhere near the size of Moon Over The Water,but you'll get served quicker! And it's handy for getting to Apollo from there.

Agree absolutely - my vague point was that whenever we all meet up there's so many of us that it becomes NOOL central regardless of the usual clientele. I don't know who usually drinks in the Audley, but before Hyde Park it was unquestionably "our" pub. And it was fucking great....

Chris, you want the Lass O'Gowrie for 'proper' beer. It's on the right side of town for the Apollo and shouldn't be too far from any of the other meeting places should you decide to slip off for a real pint.

its not like there will be many other people out anyway on a monday. isnt the bulls head a regular stop off point for people walking up to the apollo ?

I've been in it before then, not a bad tavern either.

Id like to go to DRY or any of the bars around that area because I would like to check out some record and book shops in that area (which are savage).

Also, may I suggest a coffe-bar?

Another suggestion is Rain Bar (if its still open), theres the Peveril of the Peak across the way for the Real Ale drinkers.

Isn't Dry supposed to be a bit of a dive (despite the Factory-connections)?

Apparently, the only good thing about it is the fact that it's in the same street as the record shops (Vinyl Exchange, Eastern Bloc, etc)...

actually piccadilly wetherspoons wouldnt be a bad idea. its right end of town for apollo,got taxi rank across,its big enough,serves food,but most of all its fooking cheap drinks!!!

This is my argument in support of Joshua Brookes:

Room: Large, open plan pub.

Beer: Plentiful and not expensive ale and lager.

Location: Halfway between Oxford Road and Piccadilly train stations and a very short stagger to Upper Brook St, where we will need to go to get the bus to Ardwick for the gig.

Tourism: It's right oposite the ex-Factory building, now a nightclub but still looks the same. Also only a short walk to Whitworth St in case anyone fancies a look at the Hacienda, Ritz and other sights. Also right on the doorstep of the Gay Village, if anyone fancies a stroll through there.

Other customers: Students - it's right in the middle of all three of Manchester's Universities. This is good because the staff will be used to the sort of behaviour we are likely to display. Students are less likely that some other Manchester pub regulars to take exception and 'make something of it'.

Summary - we can go there and get pissed, it's handy for the train and the gig and there's plenty for anyone who wants to to nip off for a few minutes without getting lost.

Oh, and I think they do food.

Well, the Joshua is probably the pub I'm going to visit in just over a week and a half, as the gig I'm going to on the 5th November is at Cornerhouse (next door to Oxford Road)!

yes good call britons protection you could try the pevril of the peak across road from jurys inn or city road inn round the corner across road from the hacienda.

Will be having one or two in the Peveril no doubt - not been to the City Road before, could be worth a look in also.

Rumour has it that the boys who run Revolution Vodka Bars will be planning a New Order afternoon for either Deansgate Locks (only a stones throw from The Hacienda) or Oxford Road. They may well also do the same thing in Soho or Clapham for the Brixton gig. If it goes ahead it should be the business.

I also had a word at Revolution to see if they would be prepared t omake the place a JD / NO zone for the day and they're going to see what they can come up with. Perfect venue if you ask me, even time for a pint of Tetleys at the BP before / after :D

Saw 'post no #1' and got all cynical.

Good work fella, but Revolution sucks, every time I've been there it's like standing in a queue for an X-Factor audition.

Fair enuff mate, no problems. I was having trouble logging on and had to re-register yesterday hence post no.1. I know the guys who run Revolution and they were thinking of turning the whole of downstairs at deansgate Locks into a New order zone for the day. I'll try and get them to put on a happy hour too! Being an old fart as I am these days the pev and BP are more for me I just thought the Revolution option may be an easy place to meet, loads of room, and a venue that will be sympathetic to our cause

I'll be there at around the same time - but I booked a hotel within '10 minutes walk away' and I have definitely got to book in first - and will not in anyway be distracted! But I'm relying on a taxi driver from there on in!

NOOL was only thing i could think of to get me mits on a ticket or 2, and wahay, it looks like it could be a go-er after all.

Assuming I make it, and that is by no means certain, I think a primary consideration is that the venue is well known among cabbies and the like, so that if it very far from rail/air/bus arrivals, it's at least just a matter of finding a taxi and saying "take me to the vikings".

Somewhere that does pub grub would be good, as I'll have either starved all the way from Belfast or been robbed on the HSS(even the F*ing Macballbollockburgers are more expensive) or gouged at westmorland services (£1.70 for a sausage roll that was in fact a slither of green snot inside some crusty scabs).

Oh and be advised that I WILL be bringing Bank of Ireland and Northern Bank notes and fighting with bar staff over their legality....at least my man Cuana will be on hand to show that there is no such thing as an Irish fucking pound. I would have thought that the picture of Liz and the word Sterling would be a giveaway to even the world's biggest tard, but apparently not.

Guys, grab a fast black from wherever you land - JB is well under five quid from Oxford Rd or Picadilly, a cabbie at Chorlton St bus station will probably just just laugh and give you directions it's so close.

U know I was thinking, if the gig kicked out about 2200 I could be on a bus home at 2245:)...but I suspect it'll be 2300 boot-out.

Loving longtime the deansgate locks idea! Well handy for us boys from warrington as we are straight off the train from spectrum arena.....(birchwood station actually, but its next to the arena).

my wifes gonna be with me so here's her three questions;

1. what are the toilets like ?
2. how far to walk to the appollo ? 3 do they sell Midori?!?
