On the way back from Ally Pally I was listening to Radio 2 whilst getting lost in London Village.
Mark Radcliff interviewed NO after there performance.
Barney talked about the Madonna gig and also mentioned an upcomming secret New Order gig !

Yeah, I know, I don't like to, but I don't think it's for me to say here, and to be honest, I don't know the details, just the general gist of what they're doing. Andy Rob phoned up ATR, then me, earlier, and just basically said it's a non-starter and from what little he'd give away, it's not something any of us should be at anyways. Have to respect that. I'm sure all will become clear.
Just hope we find out the fcuking setlist once they've done it!

If we're not meant to be there then fair enough. If it's okay for us to get a recording of the gig after the event then great. We all need to remember that we can't just rush into everything screaming, 'New Ordah!' and expect to be welcomed. Some things are just best left...
We've had more live performances and TV appearances this year than we expected, so let's be grateful. And let's look forward to next year - the album, the singles, the live dates (Reading?) and the TV appearances

*** Info fresh this morning*** Oakwood High School, Eccles, New Order are playing a gig there. Reported on the BBC local news this morning if it is the Oakwood school I'm thinking of it isn't actually in Eccles, it is in Oakwood Park in Salford (off Swinton Park Road, close to the A580 East Lancs Road and the A6.)

I'd imagine if a viking raiding party shows up they'll not only not be welcomed, they'll cause offence. If we leave em be, who knows, a grateful, and extremely forgetful person we're all broadly acquainted with, may have another one of his unfortunate lapses in concentration, and leave some sort of media somewhere where it may just be found, by a completely random person who would recognise it for what it is. I know, clutching at staws eh? not like that ever happened before :)

New Order help school celebrate success

When headteacher Janis Triska received an outstanding Ofsted report for Oakwood high school in Manchester, it took her a while to ponder how to celebrate best with her pupils. She put pen to paper and wrote to every famous person with local links she could think of inviting them to come and visit.
This afternoon Manchester legends New Order took up that invitation and played a surprise gig for the school's pupils and the media. Bernard Sumner, the band's guitarist and singer, visited the school earlier this year and was so impressed he reportedly told Ms Triska he'd do whatever they wanted to help.
Oakwood high in Ellesmere Park, Eccles, is a special school for pupils with learning difficulties. Its Ofsted report this summer praised the school's breadth of curriculum, community links and the relationships between staff and pupils.
This afternoon Ms Triska was dancing in the assembly hall to New Order classics such as Blue Monday and Bizarre Love Triangle.
"It's been fabulous. I can't begin to describe what's happened. The children have had a whale of a time and it's so richly deserved for them and the staff who have worked equally as hard for the Ofsted inspection," she told EducationGuardian.co.uk after the gig ended. "The roadies are coming back in to do a talk to Year 10 and 12 about jobs in the industry and Bernie said he'd be coming back. The kids might not have known who they were before, but they all certainly do now."
Once the band had agreed to the gig, their management brought in public relations consultant Sara Teiger who had the tricky job of telling the world about the gig. The school specifically asked for publicity to promote its success following the Ofsted report, but could not release the news until after New Order had left the school at 4.30pm today for fear that they would be mobbed.
"Some of the staff have been playing New Order in the classrooms since eight o'clock this morning. It's the 30-something staff that are going mad about it. Some of the pupils say that their dads were going mad when they heard."
I wonder if Sarge is one of the ones going back to give a talk...

Cheers, it was the best gig i have ever been to, the hall is only about 15m x 30m and they had a great set. heres the play list, Crystal, Regret, Krafty, Turn, Transmission, KW1, Sirens, True Faith, BLT, LWTUA, Temptation, Blue Monday. Absolutely fantastic
Did they interact with the kids and stuff or was it strictly business as usal (one assume minus the swearing)?

NO always do things their way. I love it when bands do school gigs. I just wish a band had played my school when I was growing up.
Unbelievable. What a gesture of pure class. I can't put into words how wonderful a gesture this was by the entire band. Great job, fellas. My hat goes off to you and your hearts of gold.

Music's a fabulous way to bring kids out of themselves, without having to force the issue. I know a chap called Brian Irvine who could do wonders in a place like that....he managed to handle a class of 20 assorted stoners and reprobates and turn them into what he termed "the complete fucking lack of committments". I'm assuming you're involved at the school in some way.....not that teacher who was drooling on the BBC NW report are you? poor sod looked like his head was about to go POP! :)....if you've any interest in a workshop or something check the link, he's a hyper active genius, and may be doing so many billion things that he can't possibly do it, but it sounds like his kinda gig. He's SUCH an approachable and engaging bloke, no one has a bad word to say about the man, except all his mates and ex students from the back at resepectable jazz gigs, just before starting the table dancing.....vikings are amatuers in comparison, in terms of sheer inappropriate behaviour in a sensible public place....Brian usually booked the coach :)

Steve and Hooky were interviewed on the local tv news , the reporter asked if they'd do it again if all the local schools wrote to them , Steve said he'd be up for it , reckoned it hadn't hurt Take That . Very dry humour that lad

Gives a slightly different angle on how it got started - it said Alan Wise had dialed a wrong number and got talking to the school's headmaster and given him Barney's phone number. This all seems somewhat implausible but a nice story anyhow.

I knew about this gig about 5 weeks ago through a friend whose wife works for Salford Council. I knew the exact school but not the date. At 1.30pm last Friday whilst we were enjoying a lunchtime pint at the Bury Beer Festival he announced that the gig was taking place that afternoon but security would be so tight there would be no chance of getting anywhere near. Coincidentally, The Bury Beer Fesitival was taking place in the Derby Hall in Bury, scene of the Joy Division riot in 1980 shortly before Ians abduction by aliens.

New Order perform school hall gig
Music legends New Order helped a school celebrate a good Ofsted report by holding a lunchtime concert there. The band - two of whom are from Salford - played at the city's Oakwood High School after being inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
The school, which caters for pupils with complex learning difficulties, was praised as "a very good school" by inspectors from Ofsted.
Singer Bernard Sumner said he hoped the gig made the pupils "feel special".
"I come from this town and it can be a very rough place at times and if you've got some sort of disability or problem, you can times that by many times growing up here," he added.
"We wanted to come to make these kids feel special, not special needs, but special, and to try and raise their self-esteem.
"When they all got up after the second song spontaneously it was fantastic and you couldn't want a better litmus test than playing to a bunch of kids who probably don't know you're stuff.
"I don't know if we made them feel special but they made us feel special."
Headteacher Janis Triska said the gig was to help the children celebrate the school's Ofsted report.
"It seemed sensible to bring a Salford band to give a concert to the children," she said.
"Fortunately Bernard came to visit the school and was so pleased with it he said they'd give a concert.
"A lot of them probably won't have known the band but after today they're enthralled."
