Didn't catch the local news today, will see if they're in the MEN tomorrow 
Can i just thank the lads, they made the kids day and also the teachers, they put on a fantastic show and really went to town on it, just again what they did was above and beyond the call of duty!!! cheers

Cheers, it was the best gig i have ever been to, the hall is only about 15m x 30m and they had a great set. heres the play list, Crystal, Regret, Krafty, Turn, Transmission, KW1, Sirens, True Faith, BLT, LWTUA, Temptation, Blue Monday. Absolutely fantastic
Did they interact with the kids and stuff or was it strictly business as usal (one assume minus the swearing)?
Al, anyway you can get us the official setlist for this?

I had my fears when I heard they were doing a secret gig that it would be another wanky industry jobby, or a competition only show or something.
NO always do things their way. I love it when bands do school gigs. I just wish a band had played my school when I was growing up.
Unbelievable. What a gesture of pure class. I can't put into words how wonderful a gesture this was by the entire band. Great job, fellas. My hat goes off to you and your hearts of gold.

no non of the kids did record it and yes both Bernie and Hookey both interacted with the kids, they were both brilliant (Hookey even said and I quote - I promised your headteacher I wouldnt swear, but you know what ,,,,, FUCK OFF) the kids just went wild and alot of orrrrrrr he swore went on

That's truly priceless, brought a tear :)
Music's a fabulous way to bring kids out of themselves, without having to force the issue. I know a chap called Brian Irvine who could do wonders in a place like that....he managed to handle a class of 20 assorted stoners and reprobates and turn them into what he termed "the complete fucking lack of committments". I'm assuming you're involved at the school in some way.....not that teacher who was drooling on the BBC NW report are you? poor sod looked like his head was about to go POP! :)....if you've any interest in a workshop or something check the link, he's a hyper active genius, and may be doing so many billion things that he can't possibly do it, but it sounds like his kinda gig. He's SUCH an approachable and engaging bloke, no one has a bad word to say about the man, except all his mates and ex students from the back at resepectable jazz gigs, just before starting the table dancing.....vikings are amatuers in comparison, in terms of sheer inappropriate behaviour in a sensible public place....Brian usually booked the coach :)

Did the BBC record the whole gig or just a few minutes?
Steve and Hooky were interviewed on the local tv news , the reporter asked if they'd do it again if all the local schools wrote to them , Steve said he'd be up for it , reckoned it hadn't hurt Take That . Very dry humour that lad

I don't want to sound poncey but it is never in the public forum what they do for anybody but themselves. This to me shows that they do care all cynicism aside I think thats fucking brilliant.

Despite some ill-informed beliefs of some posters (even some on this thread) the vikings have more heart and soul than that.

Hope that aint at me squire, My ravings were before the exact nature of the gig were known, and were merely my own hyperbole filled way of expressiing exactly what you said, that NO fans aren't that kind of tit, but that I WAS starting to wonder about a couple of em :)
Today's Telegraph has an article on the gig with a pic of Hooky + happy schoolkids. Gives a slightly different angle on how it got started - it said Alan Wise had dialed a wrong number and got talking to the school's headmaster and given him Barney's phone number. This all seems somewhat implausible but a nice story anyhow.
