I watched 24H PP for the umpteenth time on Channel Four the other day, and am intrigued as to why Tony Wilson met Keith Joseph, the 'mad monk', ex-Tory cabinet minister.

I couldn't be f_____ to read the book; but does anyone know why Mr Wilson met him, and what actually happened?.. And perhaps why Keith Joseph agreed to meet him?

IF it happened, he probably didn;t agree to anything other than some bloke from "world in action" or whatever soming down.

Keith Joseph was a c**t. No two ways about it.

I'm sure he was..

BUT.. i'm amazed this thread hasn't been more active..

The feeling I'm getting is that this part of 24H PP was mebbe a bit hazy/fictional.

Or I'm just boring..lol

I don't see what you find troubling about it. Wilson was a journalist, he worked for Granada, on shows such as World in Action (tho I recall him saying he Editted that). Factory, NO and all that while being an enormous part of his inner life, didn't really pervade the country's conciousness. if at that time you'd done a poll (particularly in the granada area)...10 times as many people would have said 2that nice man who reads the news" than " that mad bastard who let's those twats do what they like and make great music".

If you give me a better idea of what you think is unlikely about it, maybe i'll see it differently.

A lot of people would say "that guy who was fired for saying fuck on the news", or the guy doing the voice overs for "Coronation Street: Secrets!"

Most of the people I know around those parts would call him a fucking twat..

It has to be said that a lot of the people around our way are twats themselves. People who take a moment to think about what they say before they say it, and take pride in the things they say rather than coming out with any old shit that they think makes them sound clever, would recognise Wilson's massive contribution to Manchester (and British) culture and also acknowledge that most of his work has been driven by his desire to make such a contribution, rather than to further his own aims.

Hear! Hear! He is a twat, but the type of twat we like (except for that, er, other type of, er t...)

The type of twat I don't like are those who think its funny to take the piss of dying footballers on the runway at Munich. Not funny. Not grown up.

By the way Pensylvania lady, how many people in your fine state watch "Coronation Street: Secrets"?

Actually, I'm down with the ofensive song....but i'm from Northern Ireland, where a "torso shovel" is standard police issue.....we have developed THE most twisted, sick, evil sense of humour EVER....especially when you have the added bonus of actually offended a whole community.

Such fine ditties as... "could you hack a pasty supper bobby sands"

are our staple.

Tony presented Granada Reports, the regional news programme in the North West. The eighties was a great time for regional news programmes in the North West would you believe as over on the BBC top nutter Stuart Hall would be on. And I've had enough of people being rude about Anthony H, he's an absolute legend, that letter he wrote to the newspaper in London about Martin Hannett says it all about his feelings towards New Order and Joy Division.
