They've just put some cheap single fares up on the rail sites for getting to Liverpool, but there ain't any viable cheap singles back yet! The one they list isn't available.

I've booked on the 10 something to Lime St from Euston, but looking at getting a coach back for six quid!

The only problem with getting back is that it's World Cup Final Day on the Sunday, so you need to ensure you get back in time for that - which is my problem, as I booked a flight and then realised I landed at 8:10pm... :banghead:

Foooooook! There's me on a coach that gets back to Victoria at 17.45. What time's kickoff?

8pm - that means that you'll be pushing it to get back to Kent for that time (especially on a Sunday)...

Of course, we'll be missing the 3rd-place playoff match, as the gig is on at the same time... :p

Oh well. Of course if England are in the final I shall be getting a train back anyway, sod the cost!

Chuff me Al, it's normal to need a financial incentive or something special to get you to Liverpool isn't it? :evil4:

 daydream believer!!!!!

I'm hoping Italy get to the final as I'm flying out of John Lennon International at 06.45 on the Sunday to sunny Rome! And at £18.99 it's costing me less than the feckin train down from Glasgow.

Liverpool - Rome - bus - Pescara - London - Glasgow £76 all in. You gotta love Ryanair.

That's why I booked and paid for alternative transport!

Money down the drain my friend! Your mob have got as much chance of making the final as "The Boy" has of me buying him a pint in Liverpool.

Now if you'd said there was more chance of Scotland reaching the final than of you buying "The Boy" a pint in Liverpool, I'd have agreed with you!

Six quid on a funfare coach ticket back from the Pool ain't gonna break the bank though I hope, and the price will only go up on those. Until they offer cheap rail back from the Pool it'll do me. Should still be able to get home between 5.45 and 8.00.

Has Liverpool got a hotel shortage or summat? Or are they using them as overspills for the jails?

I'm arriving late and flying out at 06.45 on the Sunday so not wanting to spend on a room that I'm gonna be in for about 4 hours. Can find bollocks all under a tonne and there doesn't appear to be such a thing as an airport hotel.

Any suggestions?

No hotel shortages at all. Overspills? That was almost funny. I've noticed a few barbs against Liverpool and Scousers from yourself lately. What's the problem? If you don't like the city or it's people why bother coming? I always thought Glasgow and Liverpool were pretty much the same. Maybe not.

???? I have no opinion on Liverpool or it's people having never set foot in the place or known a Liverpudlian. If the jokes offend you, sorry. Feel free to fire as many Catholic/Glaswegian/Scottish digs at me.....water of a duck's back.

Now any hotel suggestions? Near the airport preferably.

Have you tried the Marriott South which is the Old Liverpool Airport? The nearest one's I can think of are the Alicia and the Solna in Sefton Park about 5 miles away from the airport or the Devonshire Hotel on Edge Lane, Wavertree which is about 7 miles away. There are loads around the city centre though much less than a ton.

I can't dig you anyway as A: I'm a Catholic B: my surname is Scottish and C: I like Glasgow. It just appeared in almost each post about coming to Liverpool a dig was made which was old hat. Something newer would be appreciated though! Anyway I'm sure we will look after you at the pre gig piss up.

It would appear (after initially searching for hotels myself about a month ago), that there isn't a lot of choice on that particular weekend (possibly something to do with it being in the summer, and the fact that a lot of tourists visit Liverpool on their hols - maybe for the Beatles connections?)

Anyway, most/all Travel Lodges/Travel Inns/Holiday Inns/etc seem to be fully booked up now - good luck with finding something... :thumb:

You like Glasgow?!! You can have it!! I found The Alicia earlier on today but it said it was 20 mins from the airport. Suppose that's pretty close right enough. The Marriot South was £120 which works out at about £40 for every hour I'm gonna be there. Not ideal.

We stayed at the Alicia a couple of weeks ago. £65.00 for a single and £90.00 for a double. A bit shabby but for the time you're staying it doesn't matter.

could try May Duncans on Everton Road. i.e Pub/B&B

Lord Nelson hotel by Lime Street Station in town, same as above.

Lord Nelson is where I'm staying.

5 mins from Lime Street station. about 10 mins to the Gig venue.

£54 for a basic single. :thumb:

crackin little pub with boss telly's on most walls at the end of the hallway as you go in past the reception too. with pool table. if the pub is full, they serve you at your table. European service. don't get much of that usually.
