New Order in Canada?

Anyone know why they haven't played Canada in such a long time. I'm wondering if it's due to the lack of radio play & Much Music video play.

Nope, it's because Canadians don't buy enough New Order records, and never have.

The last time they played was in 2001 at Moby's Area One tour in Vancouver, one damp afternoon. It was the only Canadian date on the tour...

I wish someone would explain to them how good Montreal is as a city...

they could do as much money here than what they did in New York.

It is true though! If there was a viable market in Canada that needed promoting, they would do it. There isn't.

I'm not all to convinced it's the lack of market. A show in either Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto would certainly draw from the local areas and from across the US border.

Regarding record sales, I could see how a label (even a Major) wouldn't be too willing to promote a record for a band that won't properly tour it.

It's too late now. America and Canada should have sold shedloads of records twenty years ago, and they'd be only too willing to tour there to this day. They've never sold enough over there, so can't now be arsed to tour to promote records that ain't gonna sell as the market base isn't there. That may seem an arse about face way of doing things, but that's their way! Let's face it, they are 50 and comfortably off, with nothing to prove to anyone and no need to start taking months away from home just to play a few gigs to people who don't actually give a toss whether they are there or not. They don't make all that much from touring, so if the record sales in a particular area don't warrant additional marketing, why waste time and money?

I understand OldMonkey's point but New Order would be like Gods now as we've had a giant surge in Canada of new electro-guitar outfits that are a result of NO and their counterparts. A concert with DFA, Metric and New Order would attract about 30,000 - 50,000 people in each major city. They're missing out on their birth right as the founders of modern electro. It would also send a flood of new people to NO's current cd and back catalogue. I know for a fact that Hook was in Toronto twice over the last 12 months as I saw him once.

The rolling stones don't need to tour but they promote their music to a new audience everytime they do.

Surely Kraftwerk are the founders of modern electro?

I think Kraftwerk would now be the grandfathers of modern elecro but I'm referring to a direct influence from the previous generation. Also the new electro-pop is very guitar oriented which is why New Order is more of a direct influence than Kraftwerk. (No offence to Kraftwerk as I'm also a fan)

Ok 30-50k maybe pushing it. I'm picturing a summer festival that could be made up of bands who were influenced by New Order such as Metric, Interpol, DFA.

Hell bring the Chem Bros with them and there's 30k right there.

But you guys are right. I realize that there's more chance of the Leafs winning the Stanley cup than New Order coming to play a show in Canada.

Montreal Jazz Fest would be great...

Some of my friends from a local Montreal band called "Mobile" are big fans of New Order and they would do anything to see that happening.

It was 1985 the last time I saw New Order at the Verdun Auditorium...

Would also be cool to see them do a show at Metropolis.

Montreal Jazz festival... center stage with the cirque du soleil doing a visual show. Ooops just woke up.

Calgary has Snow Fest, or is it Winter Fest? Anyways they could play a nice set in the snow. We also have a Jazz Fest, so they could a Canadian Jazz Fest tour.

But lets be honest, Toronto is a biggest hope.

Well as long as they dont play turn, I'm sure we could work something out. (It's not that I hate them, I just think its a pretty poor job, and calling it a strip down verson is the same as saying you couldn't make a good version, to me it seems like its the easy way out. And a complete insult to alot of the other bands.) But I'm done with Community and moving on to the new Tour!

As for the topic at hand, If you want New Order to play in Canada, just wait until the next time they are willing to come to America and find a promoter, who is willing to pay the bill to get them to come.
