Top top venue two minutes from my home and the sea. Saw Monaco play to under a hundred people a few years back there. For years it was a wedding venue until the early nineties when they started putting on gigs. If sunny and not too hung over we can have some boats trips the next day Ness. Gordy can also put up a few he may be working in Antigua, his flat is a lot tidier than mine so i will have the hardier ones, floor and sofa space!

Just for the record, it was 16 September 1997 - supported by Rialto and theaudience (Sophie Ellis-Bextor's band - Clive used to have the hots for her Blue Peter presenting mum, apparently!)...

Indeed - I often prefer to make the hour long journey along the coast in preference to seeing the same bands at Brighton's Concorde 2.

I believe they're also playing The Citadel in St Helens in December with The Clone Roses. Might just have to pop by.

I have seen Re:Order about 15 times (don't laugh) and I can recommend them!
I'll probably not make Kingston on 22nd as I've got a 'team meeting' that day which basically involves getting to the pub for 11am and then I've got to get up early for a 12.45 KO at Anfield and a hedonistic Lancashire night out. :)

Any Noolers attending the Kingston gig tomorrow - I'll be there around 8pm - if you've met me before, great, if not, I'll be the tall skinny guy in a NOOL T shirt with a pretty blonde *lol* (maybe two...) Oh, and I'm NOT referring to Chemical Al... Come and say hello, I won't hit you! 
I am usually a lot of things, but blonde ain't one of them! Anyone know which band are on first tomorrow night or is it decided by a toss of a beermat or somesuch? Not being a Smiths/Smyths fan, I am keen to know who will hit the stage first.

there's duration parity but I think it's the promoter's expectation that re: order will be on first. curfew is 11.30 and so I reckon kick off from 8.30 - or 8.45 very latest - in order to each get a decent set in.

Just to say, anyone who's in two minds as to going to Portsmouth to see Re:Order - sort both your minds out and get down there. They were EXCELLENT last night.

I was there, mate! You couldn't see me for looking as I was down the back near the (closed) bar. I enjoyed Re:Order last night - they were damned good. Sorry I had to scoot off straight after but the dubious attractions of Hampton Court were calling. Let's just say it was a long night!
I was slightly surprised that there weren't more folk hopping about like good 'uns during Re:Order's set. Indeed, most seem to behave in a statue-like manner, even during Blue Monday! Is this the great southern reserve manifest in glorious Kingston?

RO were quality. Making good use of the audience provided props (a bar of chocolate) during Blue Monday. Their version of EGG was better than the real thing.
Warren's other band Greenhaus are playing at the Camden Underworld on Saturday Nov 4th. With Client 
Good to see Mike & Co, Chris, Mr L Fringe and of course Warren and Paul. Made my excuses while The Smyths were playing so sorry Will, didn't get a chance to catch up.

looking forward to seeing the show in pompey. I would really appreciate if you will play thieves at the wedge as i have only ever seen it once in 1986 by the real group in 50 gigs i been to. it is a great venue, if you really live up the road i would keep it quite mate next friday.

A great night and congrats to the band. I just wish that more people were into it. I've rarely seen more of a statuesque crowd! EGG was top and the whole experience was authentic, even down to the cowbell bits and changing the lyrics!
Short of calling us all southern cunts or forgetting the words, it couldn't have been much better. Good luck to the band for their future gigs and you've any back in this manor, I'll try and be there.

Al - take it you never saw New Order in the early days then? It was JUST like the early days - a few tapping feet, 2 people dancing and the other buggers looking bemused :) *lol*

I walked into the Grey Horse in Kingston Upon Thames - a venue previously graced in the past by bands such as Bauhaus, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton - don't believe they'd play a tiny little suburban hole like that? Well they did - a long time ago, believe me. A week before, I'd burned a compilation of the best New Order tunes (in my opinion) for a friend. She'd listened to it and wanted to come to this gig. Just as we were going in, I could hear the start of 'Thieves Like Us' and thought that the evening already sounded promising! Hadn't heard that one live in ages... by the time that RE ORDER were halfway through 'Regret' I was 'hooked' - Kelly even whispered to me, 'This is New Order like on the CD right?' Bless... She's a Kiwi and a bit too young to grasp the whole concept - but that's a huge compliment to RE ORDER, in fact, if I closed my eyes, I could imagine that it really was my favourite band playing 6 feet away. After opening my eyes again, it occurred that even the stage set up was identical to New Order. Keyboards/rhythm guitar on the left as you look at the stage, bass on the right, etc. I last heard Everything's Gone Green in Liverpool and actually RE ORDER almost (yes, almost) out-did New Order with their rendition. To me, it sounded more like that infamous gig back in Tolworth - 3 miles away - oh so many years ago, but didn't ramble as much! The keyboards on this were particularly good, matching New Order's sound perfectly. The next track, 'The Perfect Kiss' was one I was particularly looking forward to, being a bass player. I certainly wasn't disappointed. For certain songs in this gig we were even treated to the sight of a Shergold 6 string - that's dedication for you *lol* The Perfect Kiss swirled around the room, and glancing at the audience, it reminded me of some of my earlier experiences of New Order. The young, the older, the 'indies' the 'average' – it looked like everyone was represented in some way. Then Crystal. Yet another for which I have a soft spot – it was the first live New Order song that my ex, Tricia had ever heard. RE ORDER’s version only suffered slightly though – amazingly, through the lack of female backing vocals, something I never thought I’d say. Still, a good cover and played with skill and enthusiasm. How about a backing track next time lads? Ceremony was next. To my mind, played a little too fast, which is just my opinion, but it always sounded so much better if taken slowly and lasting longer, yeah, okay, a bit like sex. But that’s what ‘Ceremony’ is – the New Order equivalent of sex - intense, intimate, for those who know it well and want to savour every minute. It’s both Joy Division and New Order – the best aspects of your ex and current partner mixed. Shit, I’m sounding like Morley… Oh well, the ‘sex’ was over a little too quickly! Yeah, the comments are coming… ‘True Faith’ was a delight, with all the bounciness of the real thing and carried the audience to the point of actually dancing – well a few of them anyway! I’ve wanted New Order to play ‘Subculture’ live again for ages, so I was particularly happy that RE ORDER fulfilled that wish. Great to see the guys going through it and enjoying it – something that we’ve only recently been getting from New Order again (okay, since 2000, but that’s recent!). Looking at the band, you sort of wonder how they get that kind of huge sound in a small venue, but they did. Steve may be able to explain *lol* It could have been a mid 80’s New Order gig at this point! New Order should take a leaf out of these guys’ book – they actually played a track from ‘Technique’ – ‘Vanishing Point’. And they played it very well – reminded me of a booze and drugs fuelled holiday in a certain Spanish speaking island some 17 years ago! But that’s partly what RE ORDER are about – it’s nostalgia with the ‘insider’ knowledge of what many of the fans want. And THAT is what makes them so special. Then yet another favourite – I said to Kelly at the time, this is ‘BLT’ she misheard me and asked if I was hungry… Damn Kiwis… she loved it though – ‘Such a sweet song,’ she said and yes, I have to agree, it was sweetly played too. A minor gripe about the band is that the sequenced tracks are just a little bit off from the originals, but that’s totally forgivable when they kick in and everything blends together in a wave of what would otherwise be perfection. The singer’s voice was great on this one. Actually very close to Barney all the way through the gig, even down to changing certain lyrics, which I think were lost on the majority of the audience. I’m sure Johnny, Martin and Al caught a few of the funnies, while many just enjoyed the whole experience. NOOL members would have loved the next track and found it SO familiar – ‘The Village’. When the guys were playing this one, the images from David Church’s video entry for Community 2 were running through my head – that combined with the music was actually quite a moving experience. Right, okay. A track you’d expect to hear as an encore, but no – the Mars Bar theme was next. Spot on programming and performance, again with a few altered lyrics, made it one of the highlights and I must admit, like many, that I am usually a bit fed up with ‘Blue Monday’. Not this time. Another funny was an audience member supplying the band with a bar of Cadbury’s Fruit ‘n’ Nut – Mars must be fuming… Then my favourite track of the evening – ‘Temptation’. It ‘rocked’ to use an over-used expression! Lost Kelly halfway through as she had to get back to work – shame, as she missed something special. Closing my eyes again, it really was like listening to New Order and a great way to have an interim fix before Bournemouth and Wembley. It really did seem like the set was ending too soon – even after 13 or 14 songs, so I was wondering what the last would be. I hoped for ‘Transmission’ or ‘Shadowplay’ but was actually pleasantly surprised with ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’. A great cover, played with both skill AND enthusiasm, to my delight, the bass player WASN’T yelling ‘Come on’ through most of it. Restraint can be a wonderful thing – reminds me of the S&M comment earlier in their set! Even though there were plenty of shouts for an encore and a far louder than usual degree of applause for The Grey Horse, the guys left the stage. A real shame as I’m sure that most of the audience would have happily listened to the whole lot again. Still, there was another band waiting to play and I guess it would have been cruel to be the ‘support’ (by the toss of a coin apparently) and still blow them off the stage – no, don’t go there. But DO go to see RE ORDER if they are playing anywhere near you. These guys are fantastic – each one of them performs to almost the point where it’s unnerving. There are so many cheesy puns I could use to end this review, but I won’t. Instead I’ll just say a heartfelt ‘Thanks for a great gig’ to RE ORDER.

I could hardly put it any better than my good friend Mr Nash has except to say that, should the Re:Order chaps be playing near you, do toddle along and have the large stuff.
I could hardly believe it when I saw the bassist had a Shergold sixer and some of those basslines are well tricky. Fair play to all of them for really nailing the tunes. If anyone from the Order had wandered in, I dare say they'd have been chuffed to bits. My minor earlier carping about lack of dancing etc is down to me expecting a lot of folk!

funnily enough we recently got a request from a university student union for us to come and play a gig because they "intend to showcase some of the very best contemporary folk artists"
we have started work on re: fining the setlist appropriately.

Play it 1st and 2nd then, and I'll shut up.
Yup, it wouldn't be an authentic Order tribute scenario without fuck-ups along the way! Next up you must rig the sequencer to bugger up the songs and the synths must drift out of tune occasionally (difficult with modern gear). You've got the altered lyrics thing sorted but now you must move on to equipment failures, playing occasionally out-of-tune and then berating the audience. This is the real key to authenticity.
How boring it must be to be a member of a trib act for someone like Dire Straits or The Eagles where everything has to be note and time-perfect and there's no room for anything less than an anamatronic ersatz perfectionism!
Fair play to your bassist: I spotted the odd bum note in some of Hooky's more labrythine basslines but I think they'd defeat almost every other bassist apart from the Hookster himself...and he wrote them!
They say that Jimmy Page forgot a good deal of his earlier guitar parts for Led Zep, such was the state of his brain after many years of indulgence. He had to re-learn his parts to Stairway To Heaven from a record but I could've told him to go into any music store of a Saturday instead (muso's joke).

First time I'd seen re : order and they're great. Nice to hear all those songs that we'll never hear from the real thing again. Bass was particularly impressive in places. Particularly liked the melodica malfunction - just before the line "no more mistakes...." Comedy genius.
And at the end marvel how, with only the aid of a pair of fake National Health glasses, Bernard Sumner seamlessly becomes Craig Gannon.

A big thanks to the travelling order for coming down on Friday. I think i can safely say that we really enjoyed ourselves... great gig great crowd great venue. Judging from the pats on the back i was getting i think we converted a few Smiths fans as well, can't be bad. Little do they know i'm a huge Smiths fan myself. looking forward to the photos

I hoped for ‘Transmission’ or ‘Shadowplay’ but was actually pleasantly surprised with ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’. A great cover, played with both skill AND enthusiasm, to my delight, the bass player WASN’T yelling ‘Come on’ through most of it. Restraint can be a wonderful thing – reminds me of the S&M comment earlier in their set! Even though there were plenty of shouts for an encore and a far louder than usual degree of applause for The Grey Horse, the guys left the stage. A real shame as I’m sure that most of the audience would have happily listened to the whole lot again. Still, there was another band waiting to play and I guess it would have been cruel to be the ‘support’ (by the toss of a coin apparently) and still blow them off the stage – no, don’t go there. But DO go to see RE ORDER if they are playing anywhere near you. These guys are fantastic – each one of them performs to almost the point where it’s unnerving. There are so many cheesy puns I could use to end this review, but I won’t. Instead I’ll just say a heartfelt ‘Thanks for a great gig’ to RE ORDER.
