Recomendations 1981-83

I am looking for help with rare NO from the period of 1980-1983. My favorite era of NO music is these years and I am looking to round out my collection of music from this period. This is what I do have.

Movement Power Corruption & Lies Peel Sessions (8 Tracks) Live Dec 8, 1982 from Hillsborough Hotel Live May 27, 1981 so36 Club Live Nov 18, 2981 Taras singles and b-sides (in a lonely place, procession, cries and whispers, cermemony, everythigns gone green, etc..)

Bologna 82 Milan 82 Hacienda July 83 LA Florentine Gardens 83 (best performance ever?) Brussels 82 Boston 81 anything off the May 81 European tour Norwich 82

..........and Boston 80 Glastonbury 81 Tolworth 83 Kilkenny 83

i assume most of the quality of these recordings is bootleg. is there anything that comes off the soundboard or radio quality.

maybe i don't know the secret handshake but who around here runs an archive or can point me to other distribution.

From the ones listed, Glastonbury 81 and Kilkenny 83 are FM, and Tolworth 83 is a soundboard. Milan 82 is either FM or soundboard.

From the ones not mentioned yet, Paris 82 is FM and there's a soundboard version of Blackpool 82 out there. Both are great gigs, IMO. There's also a soundboard of Wellington 82, but that's a bit ropey.

I wouldn't completely shy away from audience recordings if I were you though, there are some with great sound quality (Nottingham 81, Brussels 81, Hamburg 81, Pasadena 81, both Hacienda gigs from 83, Fullerton 83) out there. Not to mention the ones that have something out of the norm (debuts of songs, 20 minute encores, etc.), but I guess I've listed enough stuff for today.

In many cases with New Order, you don't want to get the soundboard recording as they can be sterile and totally lacking in any life. Many of the gigs recorded by the experienced taper between 81 and 83 are extremely high quality, better than anything that followed, and the audience recordings are often far superior to any other recording as an artefact of the gig. Worth remembering as well that in the UK and Europe you don't get audience recordings ruined by screaming septics!

Birmingham's LWTUA was the first airing by NO of a JD song in front of an audience anywhere, not just in the UK!

They may have done an instrumental version of Transmission and She's Lost Control at Chicago in June 1983, but we'll never know unless the Rob Gretton archive has a tape, as the gig wasn't bootlegged. There's been a lot of speculation about this gig, all we know is that the sequencers packed up halfway through, and they'd already played the guitar songs they intended to play that night, so they were a bit stumped!

Of the 83 ones, any of the ones featuring teh then unrecoreded Thieves Like Us are good, it was really long sometimes, up to about 14 mins I think. Hacienda is one I can think of. All the Europe 81 tour is really good, and all the Italian tour 82 as well. Not heard many from the Blegium tour. It does seem that when they do tour they get very tight even though they were playing a different set each night in those days.
