am i the only one that was left shocked by the playlist at the manchester v cancer gig. it was very poor. No old classics and very little crowd participation. i think the fact that the crowd started to go early and went for a piss halfway through tells it own its own story

and only one song with hooky having a decent role and to be fair i thought the only song i thought that did something fir me was Ceremony ( hooky and the echo) and i thought the dj did well. Who was he?
So I didn't miss much then.
Managed to get my bookcase put together and bake cookies instead of going...seems like I made the right choice.

Was this the same concert where The Bunnymen played all classics( including Ceremony with Hooky ),The Charlatans played classic after classic plus A Town Called Malice with Paul Weller,Ian Brown played Golden Gaze,Dolphins,Time Was My Everthing,F.E.A.R.,plus encored with I Am The Resurrection with Mani,McAlmont & Butler played 2 Smiths tunes,Noel sang classic Oasis plus There Is A Light...& Butterfly Collector with Weller....& where the M.E.N. was generally heaving & bouncing for the most part of it,singing Don't Look Back In Anger & Resurrection so Noel & Ian Brown didn't have to....fookin' 'ell,I must have been dreaming then.You were at the same concert then????????????

im not arguing with that. but for fuck sake they WAS alot of shit that was played. It was billed Noel, Weller and then Ian brown. Weller played fuck all. Ian brown missed a huge trick not playing stone roses stuff. This gig was built as the homecoming of manchester music music, hacienda stuff everywhere and i saw little of the hacienda spirit inside the arena or on the setlist. If the audiance wasnt so drunk there was drunk there would have not been any appriciation for waht was going on

it was an awesome night 
everyone sounded really good. particular highlights for me were ceremony and i am the resurrection
really great night. the crowd were great and ridiculously loud - the noise on resurrection makes me wonder how big a stone roses reunion would actually be 
im not arguing the highlights they were mint. but as a a fan of all the artists on the the bill they could have done alot more. Or im i expecting to much?

i honestly thought that everyone was really really great, quality performances 
im not moaning about the quality but i just thought they could have had a better set selection
yea stop complaining.didnt see this thread so opps started another.was ok night out,liven up matt mate.first time ive seen brown,cant sing really but it was emotional for me hearing f.e.a.r and golden gaze.and ceremony,also town called malice thrown in.good stuff 
In a lot of respects,I thought it was better this year,apart from not being able to see the Order this time! Didn't see McAlmont & Butler,but this year it got off to a much quicker start.Echo & The Bunnymen were QUALITY.KILLING MOON never sounded so good. And of course,Ian did his Tenth Summer thang when Hooky came on and sung CEREMONY from a crib sheet! Never been that mad on The Charlatans but they were a good live band. WELLER & The Charlatans doing TOWN CALLED MALICE was another highlight for me. The only disappointment for me,was the one act I was looking forward to was WANK on stage. IAN BROWN was great on GOLDEN GAZE,F.E.A.R. ,TIME IS MY EVERYTHING and of course the encore,but the rest he was well out of key.Never expected to be clock-watching when he was on.Bad idea to be performing new songs too. It was as well received as a FART in a spacesuit. Greatest highlight and well worth the admission alone was GALLAGHER. Just amazing,never seen OASIS live but I would definitely see them next time. DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER,HALF THE WORLD AWAY,CAST NO SHADOW were just a mini Glastonbury sing-song,pure feel-good. Oh and a rare glimpse of the power of FREEBASS on stage performing I AM THE RESURRECTION with Ian Brown as an encore. WALL OF BASS!! Gutted to not meeting any NOOLERS last night,apart from Banshee and his good lady.Oh and saw Big Clive. And I did see JULIE from Newcastle on big screen!

Yeh,you have a point.I must admit,it didn't grab me in the same way as watching N.O. or ACR,theirs is more personal to me,but I was just disputing your point of there not being any classics or lack of crowd involvement,as I thought there was on both counts.One thing I would say tho',is even tho' this years' had overall bigger names,last years' seemed to have more about it,a lot less austere.After The Bunnymen & The Charlatans,it went a bit flat for me personally,tho' I would never dispute that Noel is /was quality even tho' I'm not a big Oasis fan.

The one major disappointment was that Weller didn't have his own set but hey seen him that many times before it was good to see him take a back seat so to speak.
Ian Brown always starts off ropey until about 5/6 songs into his sets but to play new songs I thought was a bit off, however did have to admit I had a tear in my eye seeing him & Mani together again.
As for the crowd, you kidding all round me everyone was completely up for it

wasn't as good as last years, this year it just wasn't substantial but i am the resurection well i would pay £40quid just for that
What they like?? Nah I saw them do Lips Like Sugar,but Hooky didn't come on till Ceremony. Feel a right knob, I said on an earlier post that FREEBASS performed,but admitted I couldn't see Hooky,it was just Ian Brown had introduced him!
I thought it was a brilliant night, and I was certainly participating. Agree with the point that they should have stuck with the classic songs rather than new material. My personal favourite was the Bunnymen, although I was impressed again with Noel Gallagher.
Ian Brown isn't the best but you just have to see him! He did announce Hooky and I was craning to see him at the end and it was only towards the end of the song I realised he wasn't there.
Thought Paul Weller might have done a bit more, but never mind eh.

Have to echo your comments though. Can't say it was a great night, just alright. Way too much back-slapping and stuff. And not a touch on last year.
Didn't get chance to talk to half of the folk from here there, which was a shame. Didn't like the meet in Lloyds as needed to find a proper backwater to drink in. Assumed I'd run into most folk later, but didn't see Col and Roy til late in the venue then Dave, Andrew, Nick and Ally til after but at least we had a few jars back in l'hotel and a bit of chat.
In fairness though Bunnymen, Charlatans and Brown were okay, just didn't think much of the closing set from Gallagher.
Oh, and they need to sort out the beer in there. Fcuking shambles. Waiting 20mins to drink piss just ain't on. Defo wasn't like that last year. Amateurs behind the bar.

Yes, it was a disaster with the bar. Missed the Charlatans and half of Town Called Malice because of their incompetence.
It seemed not so full in the standing area near the stage as last year. My highlight was EATB with and without Hooky and -I'm not an OASIS-Fan- Noel Gallagher. The crowd last year was better. Then there were many NO-Fans. Now it was more diffused. Ian Brown was better than in Argentina in November.
I thought it was a bit more average after last year's legendary debut which seemed far more spontaneous and genuinely memorable by comparison. Still for a great cause.
Highlights for me were Echo And The Bunnymen and Ian Brown. I didn't enjoy Gallagher's set as much because he played at least 2 or 3 tracks I wasn't familiar with. I'm also not the biggest Oasis fan... well I like everything up to album #3. Half The World Away with his set highlight but the Smiths cover was well below average.
As already mentioned, the bar situation was ridiculous because you'd go and queue up and by the time you got back into the arena something like two acts had come and gone on stage. I eventually swapped lager for a clutch of WKDs 
because what they have on tap there is such pisswater I'd rather disintegrate my enamel instead!
But of course, good to see the usual faces as always
i never actually went to the bar.just kept getting lagers from the sellers with the packs on the backs.although they kept running out 
I just didn't see the point of Noel stumming his way through the back catelogue like that. No real performance, just bashing out the chords and singing along with the audience.
I was really surprised when Liam came over and declared that he'd liked that part of the set - i much prefered watching my mate Paddy at his house the following night!

Ally: forgot that Noel did There is a Light. That, for me, was a summary of the night. A not bad version, but rubbish when compared to Johnny Marr's brilliant rip through it last year. You could download the chords from the internet and be rattling off a better version than that within five minutes.
Overall, not as good as last year.
Liam's pint was GORGEOUS though!

The smoke machine on stage went into overload during EATB's set especially during Hooky's appearance on Ceremony. Every shot I took just produced misty silhouettes. It was a shit way to try and give some stage "atmosphere"; endless fog!
Towards the end of the gig I moved back towards the seating area because I wasn't that arsed about any of the acts to come and Hooky never reappeared anyway. Aside from one or two shots of some fellow Vikings I gave up on the photography very early on that evening.
The Hard Rock Cafe last week was much better for up-close Hooky photos as you could practically wander onto the stage if you wanted to. You don't get that very often at gigs so I made the most of it.

Funny you should mention crap gig shots. I think I took the worst photos EVER at that gig.
I remembered thinking that I had a nice one of Rachel (who was standing next to me) and Roy agreed. But, to the sober eye, it's crap.
Still, that's the cheap seats for yer!
