Festive Fifty [48]

It's been twenty years or so since I heard a festive fifty so the process might be a little awry from the original form, but I thought it might be apt to propose a new poll variant today.

We've had knockout competitions and such but I can't recall a festive fifty version of the relative merits of the NO/JD canon.

I'm thinking that the rules used to be: 3 favourite songs... #1 = 3pts #2 = 2pts #3 = 1pt

So, in lieu of a wealth of programming just post your top three songs (1, 2 & 3) and any blurb and then let the mathematical chaos ensue.... [for clarity's sake, only NO and JD tracks eligible and any remix will be counted under the generic song title] It's late and poorly thought out so apologies if the rules get changed.

As well as the interesting pointlessness of a new poll - we at Re:Order acres thought it might be another way of informing our setlist choices for the upcoming seasonal spectacular. Hope & Anchor 14th Dec etc etc Two Sets; Bad Santa emptying his sack; EGGnog; Puppet Show

Results on the night... or by podcast perhaps. Final caveat: as is appropriate for people who can't count - it will probably only end up as a Top 48

Really, I don't think i could pick my fave NO song, or fave 3, or fave 48 even! there's so many, that are so good, in so many different ways. All i can do is choose NO over anything else (natch)

You aren't seriously considering doing 48 songs in the one night? Twelve is more than enough for a gig, any longer than about 70 minutes and it becomes boring.

To pick three though, and based on the songs that suit the way you play/sing them rather than the records, I would have to say

Sub-culture Lonesome Tonight Dreams Never End

with maybe Vanishing Point a very close 4th

no. you're right a 48 song set would be madness! that's 4 hours... would 45 songs do?

just to clarify... the thread was suggested in order to compile, in a festive fifty style, another list of what is collectively popular. I was thinking that it would be an interesting way of creating a more varied and eclectic hierarchy.

I've confused things by labelling both the list and the event as 'festive 48' although (once collated) the order of popularity might inform some of the setlist choices for the hope & anchor gig it seems that the NO/JD favourites list will be influenced primarily by what people are suggesting re: order should play for this gig.

I appreciate the positive encouragement and if it was an appeal for a re: order jukebox that top three and the accompanying rationale would be more useful than a list of songs that aren't in our pool of performed material. [with something like 58 songs under our belt we'd hoped that most of the popular choices would be in there already...]

but, I guess, seeing what surprise favourites might be offered up was another idea behind suggesting the 'poll'
