I just want to share to you, to those who haven't seen it, to those who already saw it, and to those who want to see it again...
This is the first time I saw Let's Go being performed live on video. Finally, I found one! The song has my favorite Hooky bassline. Even though this was the original melody minus vocals (instrumental), I still find this video worth the watch.

Yep, this concert was filmed for Rox Box, the musical programme presented by Ray Cokes the Belgian TV.
Vocals would have been good.As it stands...well, instantly forgetable. I,m sure iv'e got this on a bootleg album.

Just goes to show how opinions differ. For me, there is only one good version of Let's Go, and that is definitely the instrumental 
Trade secret time. The song was written to be an instrumental, and was intended to be on Low Life. A certain band member (no prizes) had a slight issue with the fact that this would mean two instrumentals on the same record, and so decided at the eleventh hour to write some lyrics for it. They were shit, so they decided to pull it from the record and used an edit of TPK instead.
They played the song some 25+ times I would think, always as an instrumental. The version on Salvation was the definitive version.
When it came to the time for a US "Best Of" compilation (more contractual obligations and all that), there was a certain amount of pressure to include the song, with some pressure to write some words. Again he did, again they were shit and totally devalued the song. Never mind.
Tim, do you know of any reason why they didn't dust 'Lets Go' off and include it on the instrumental-less Brotherhood?.
It was still unreleased at that time and a stronger track (IMHO) than the majority of the songs on that album.

I disagree with this one. I really love the "Nothing For Me" version, and as I've mentioned in the start of the thread, this song has my favorite Hooky bassline.

I still think the instrumental is the best thing they've ever done, and would have been an asset to Brotherhood. I think it was a case of being a little unsure how to record it to do it justice. I remember having a long phone conversation around July 86 with Dave Simpson and we were convinced it was a shoe-in for Brotherhood, because at that stage we'd only heard half the album yet knew it was coming out in the October.

I would prefer this Leuven performance put on DVD rather than any other in the pipeline. A great gig.
PFD is available through CD Japan and I think can still be bought for under £20.00 inc postage etc.
Academy would be alright but FFS take off that interview in the middle of DNE.

TPK was originally not planned to appear at all on Low Life then?
Salvation versh of Let's Go is good although it tapers and meanders a bit after a while.Never bought the American version of Best Of but have the vocal version of Let's Go on casette somewhere
For me one of the best Let's go versions is the one that -never made it beyond demo-status and has the lines: now we take just what we need, you can keep your wings of glory, open up and you will bleed, will you try it here before me (and 'waiting for so long etc in the chorus).
Got a very bad tape-version of this song unfortunately and i still really love this song, 'cause it always manages to move me..

I don't know the answer to your question, but then, we know that it is in Low-Life that NO first introduced singles featured in their studio albums. So I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is 'yes' to your question.

It was never intended to be on Low Life, no. The edited version was a late sub. A demo version of the album featuring Let's Go instead was in limited circulation in Feb 85.
Its a great song and a great live clip. Im trying to cover Lets Go. Has anyone tried to play it. I think I got the guitar chords, but that bass line might take longer to work out.
The live version is great, as Steve is doing the drums to 'Transmission'.
The 'Salvation' version is messy but good, sounds like it's from the 'Brotherhood era'. The re-recording 'Nothing to me' on the best of,I don't like at all, awful out of tune synth bass. And the Lowlife era version is a little flat, maybe because it wasn't finished, could be better.
Just my opinion.

Yeah,it was wishful thinking on my part so,it's just that I listened to TPK a few times recently when out walking and it still sounds as awesome as when I first heard it,a real tour de force,not least from Hooky.

Used to have a great version of this with good lyrics (Waiting For So Long) on a bootleg cassette 'Demos, Out-takes And Rarities' (there were 3 volumes, of ever decreasing interest if I recall). Liked it and was surprised it never got official release.

That was my favourite version,I still have the cassette,but the revised lyrics on Retro came as a let down.

Barney is really inspired on it.
I first saw a few songs of this performance on a very cool VHS tape Shug recorded years ago. Later I found the entire broadcast concert ripped from VHS on an .avi format on eMule.
This concert deserves a proper remaster...
