I've got a ticket for the Apollo which I may have to give up if I can't get a baby sitter.

I got some freebies for Manchester Apollo.

Quite looking forward to it. Hope we get some Foxx era stuff but doubt it.

bristol on the satdee. atr will be in atttendance for that one n all

seriously doubt there will be anything from the foxx era as it is the first tour of the reunion & is geared principally to the first three albums ure era ultravox

Sheffield next Wednesday followed by Hammersmith Apollo and then The Roundhouse to errr...round off. Bring it on!

The set will be based almost entirely on the first four Ure-era albums. As much as I love the Foxx-era stuff - particularly Systems Of Romance - that line-up (mk. 2) was not commercially successful in the least (quite the opposite!) and the line-up that is touring is the one that earned Crysalis the major bickies.

The official Uvox site's forum - run by fans, pop pickers - is alight with all kinds of speculation. Those who booked for the first night in Edinburgh have now just forty-eight hours to wait...

Yeah SYSTEMS is the one I play the most,but I've taken to listening to the URE era again a lot lately been playing PATHS & ANGLES to death lately.

Got my BEST OF...CD delivered today with DVD.Corker...never seen the vid for Same Old Story before plus got live versions of VIENNA ,SLEEPWALK and TOTP version of ALL STOOD STILL.

Would have gone had it not been for the fact that it's my birthday meal with family that evening... Doh...

There was quite a good John Foxx interview in either this (or last?) month's Record Collector magazine (they've just reissued "Vienna", "Quartet" and "Rage In Eden" as special 2xCD remastered editions, which supplements the John Foxx-era remasters from 2006) - it's the one with the Pet Shop Boys on the white cover - worth a read in the newsagents anyway... :)

Personally, I liked their popular Midge Ure phase as well - one of my first albums was "Quartet" (following on from the "Hymn" single) - I can't remember which of Madness' "Rise & Fall", Dexy's "Too Rye Aye" or Ultravox's "Quartet" was the first - but it was one of the first!

Not doing too well in the gig-scheduling so far this year... Ah well, at least there's 808 State on the 25th April at Koko! :)

Unfortunately the Uvox forum - and a fair bit of the site - crashed yesterday due to a lot of interest! I did, however, manage to access it on Saturday to read the first reviews of their Edinburgh opener which was quite an emotional night by all accounts.

Sheffield on Wednesday here I come! There's a Voxgate (fan convention) at the All Bar One on Leopold Street before and after the gig.

went to the apollo gig last night, bloody good gig all told.

Downside: Seated downstairs, seemed to be a reluctance to stand on the part of many forty-somethings who aint been to a gig for years due to baby-sitting issues, this despite the valiant efforts of a bloke I'm sure was ATR a Viking of this parish ( or a looky-likey ) in the second/third row from front.

Initial bad sound vocals well down in mix ( I was in the middle about eight rows back )

some weird bum notes during Mr X.

Upside: Forty-somethings rediscovering that weird new-romantic type dance with accompanying facial expressions.

A perfectly paced gig, and apparently the first to sell out.

And they still do the electric drum thing at the end.

even bought a programme, which aint a cut and paste job though at a tenner should have been a hard back book.

Oh, and One Small Day was fuckin majestic

if I had the dollar would deffo go see the London gig, a standing venue will make all the difference, always fancied a gig at the roundhouse, I've certainly got some degree of envy of those going

All in all a good gig.

I thought the sound engineer should have been shot though. Took him 3 songs to get a balance.

Did anyone else notice Alex was standing straight away (row 2) and trying to get the crowd up on their feet?

Got a text from ATR who was at the Celtic game on Saturday, he was up there for the Ultravox gig, so it's very possible he's on tour with em.

Aye a tenner, suffering post posh programme stress disorder now, still tis a nice thing. Furthermore as an easyreader starter for ourkid it has adult edukashion potential too, and plenty o pictures so as not to intimidate him.

dunno about camp Shug, but there can be few sadder sights than an overweight balding new romantic with a facial hair design that spurns any notion of symmetry... but he was alone.

mrs GaryMac felt if anything the gig was a bit blokeish, indeed the Apsley pub at the stage door did a fair old trade in lager n bitter as opposed to creme de menth and stuff with olives in it that aint a kebab.

And glad to have confirmation that it was Alex t R at stage front inspiring folk to get off their arses

I saw them last week in Sheffield and they were brilliant. The audience, particularly where I sat up in the gods, sat throughout but the lads put in a great show.

I'm off to see them again on Friday at Hammersmith Apollo and then again on Thursday week at The Roundhouse (that's your actual norf Landan place, innit?) where a DVD will be recorded. As the Roundy is all standing downstairs, I anticipate much "new romantic-style" dancing!

Camp? Yeah and I loved them for it and a good deal more besides.

listened to the sheffield set last night, they got the transition from your name has slipped my mind again to vienna even more wrong then than they did in bristol!

Gosh, i'm a bit surprised there's so many ultravox fans amongst NOOLers...ultravox was my second 'music hero' (gazza numanoid was the first...) but i never had a chance to see them live before, i was living in malaysia then where you only find abba or bee gees on the airwaves. IMO rage in eden was their best album...and that herve morvan rip-off cover, what a classic 'lazy' saville!!! I thought at one stage nobody wants to know abt ultravox, esp. looking at those embarrasing midge ure's vain pics with his parachute pants ala mc hammer, yeah, camp was the rite word, shugsy... in fact, peter saville even disowned all his ultravox covers too, i believed. Anyway, i saw john foxx last year when he toured australia - it was good to hear 'underpass' played live after sooo many years...funny thing was there was even a Q and A with john foxx before the gig started - it really felt like i was sitting in a uni lecture room and john foxx shared the same sheffield accent with my faculty professor here back in my uni days.... oh, shugsy, sorry abt the looong wait, i still got the NO NY live DVD here for you...wasnt sure you prefer 16:9 or 4:3 ratio? I got both versions...so tell me which one you prefer...and I'll mail it out to you in 2012....oops!!

They were awesome all three nights I saw them.

Sheffield: a slightly too polite audience sat throughout as standing or doing anything else was forbidden by the management fascists. As a result, almost zero atmos.

Hammersmith: the exact opposite. The whole crowd on its feet from the off and a really top night. Billy's synth broke down before his solo in Sleepwalk!

The Roundhouse: brilliant. A very intimate venue which was packed to the rafters. Much was imbibed before, during and after. A DVD was filmed and should be out before the end of the year. Four old blokes making a racket. Where have I seen that written before?

Camp? Yup, that's one of the reasons I always loved 'em!
