Along with New Order, John Lydon and P.I.L. are the main reason I started to make music.
Hearing P.I.L.'s groundreaking 1979 post punk dance electronic masterpiece Metal Box changed my life, made me realise I didn't have to take shit from idiots, made me want to dance, and made me want to make music.
I hope they do Death Disco, Careering, Chant, Rise, Public Image, This is Not a Love Song...
Hell I even love late 80's PIL, so thro in Dissappointed, Warrior, and The Body as well.
I am really stoked about this. Lydon has let PIL sit while he did Sex Pistols tours for wayyyy to long.
Hopefully they will come to the states.

I would say yes.
In his interview with the Guardian yesterday, Lydon talks about how his father died last year, and his brother got cancer, and he was really depressed and was reminded of when his mother died of cancer...he wrote Death Disco about his mother dying.
Anyways, his father dying, brother getting cancer, and being reminded of losing his mother, and he felt the desire to go out and sing Death Disco again.
So, basically, he reformed PIL in part so he could sing Death Disco.
I am pretty excited...I love Lydon's lyrics and vocals for PIL songs, from all era's, some very personal lyrics and creative vocals.
Apparently at one point, Wobble was going to play bass but they didn't get the business aspect cleared up, and he didn't want to tour unless they made a new record.
Lydon also said there may be some new PIL songs in the set.
It looks like the later line up with a new addition.
I saw them in 87 at the Astoria in London - by this time they were churning out sub-standard rock and they were something of an embarrassment - especially when they murdered "Anarchy In The UK"!
The big claim is "We'll be playing songs from our entire career" - they were doing the same back then!
"Public Image" - great album except for the excremental "Fodderstompf"
"Metal Box" - an undeniable classic
"Flowers of Romance" - an underrated album that is worth reappraising
The rest isn't worth shit
The prices definitely outweigh their worth - in London it's £39.50 per tkt - after admin fee and postage it becomes around £48
Tis funny Bruce Smith (ex Pop Group) is playing with Lydon - as I helped set the wheels in motion for Keith Levene to work with Mark Stewart and Massive Attack earlier this year - results hopefully to follow.....

You're a bigger fan than I am though; I've tried to like the late-'80s stuff but I just can't do it. Album, though, is one of my all-time favorites. John Lydon plus Steve Vai equals crazy delicious.

I shall put Metal Box on the turntable, I have an original copy, barely played, in the silver can with inserts and everything. Used Kids Records here in Columbus sold it to me for 20 bucks when I was 16 years old. They could have sold it to anyone else for a lot more, but they sold it to me because they knew how much I loved PIL (I was in there every weekend when I was 14,15, 16, lookin for PIL stuff).
The fellow who sold it to me saw PIL play at the Cleveland Agora in 1980!
If PIL do the states, it would be awesome if they played Cleveland, but the best I can hope for is Chicago.
I do love all era's of PIL. My top 2 favorite PIL records are Metal Box and Album, followed by 9, This Is What You Want, First Issue, and Flowers.
Early stuff like Metal Box, First Issue, and Flowers of Romance was groundreaking, and Album is awesome for its John Lydon meets Disco Metal-ness.
9 is hardly a groundbreaking album, but it is PIL doing super catchy, funky, uber dancey synth pop songs, and for that its awesome. Warrior, Happy, Dissappointed, USLS1, and Sand Castles in the Snow are fun, great tracks. Not ground breaking, but great dance tunes with great lyrics from Lydon.
That What is Not from 1992 wasn't very good, but I loved Acid Drops and Cruel.
Lu Edmonds is a fantastic guitarist/keyboardist, his style similar to Levene's, so he will be great. Bruce Smith's drumming on the 9 record was awesome, very tight and dance oriented, he was the best drummer PIL had outside of Martin Atkins.
So I think that hearing this line up wdoing songs from PIL's entire career will be a lot of fun.
To be honest I like all their albums. The first three are natch the best, but Album and TWIN are great and even the late 80s stuff has plenty to recommend it. The only stuff from Johnny I didn't get into was his Pscho's Path solo.
So, even though I'm sure there will be no US dates, does anyone think there is chance they'll play here? I've always preferred Public Image Limited to the Sex Pistols.

This Is What You Want/Commercial Zone are both really good.
Album is excellent.
9 is a great synth pop/dance/funk hybrid record.
Bruce Smith from The Pop Group was PIL's drummer on the 1986 Album tour. He played on Happy? and the 9 album and the tours for each. His drumming on the dance oriented 9 is awesome, super tight and rhythmic, somehwat remiscent of Steve Morris's style.

Don't want to lose the NO focus but I'm sure this will be of interest to a lot of you. It's the first new PIL track in, technically, bleedin' ages and I love it. http://kroq.radio.com/2012/02/13/first-new-track-from-pil-public-image-ltd-in-20-years-listen-to-one-drop/ I may be in the minority but I don't think PIL ever made a bad album! The first three stand mighty over the others, but This Is What You Want has a couple of cracking singles aboard, Album and That What Is Not kick serious butt, and 9 and Happy? mingle Lydon's trademark rage with contemporaneous synthpop. The live albums are inessential but John's the first to tell you that and the wonga funded the stronger releases. Only Psycho's Path didn't work for me.
