Yeah it was great.I've never seen Section 25 live before,and never heard anything other than LOOKING FROM A HILLTOP.
Alex was in Rochdale during the daytime,where they unveiled a blue plaque celebrating SUITE 16/Cargo Studios,where Hooky was there with his youngest daughter,Chris Hewitt,Andy McCluskey and Paddy out of Emmerdale.
Me and Alex got there later on to THE BACK DOOR PROJECT,a venue which has been a great breeding ground for would-be young musicians.
There were a collection of young rappers early on,plus a young PINK wannabe,a great highlight were a young band called SAFETY PINS who were about 15/16 years old.They did a few covers of JET,JIMI HENDRIX,UNDERTONES....And JOY DIVISION.Really good version of WARSAW!!
There followed a the Mayor of Rochdale who did a couple of Frank Sinatra numbers(!!)
Followed by SECTION 25 playing a non-electronic set,apparently a few numbers of their new album.
Hooky came on,and took over bass,and they did ULTRAVIOLENCE,INTERZONE,DIGITAL,DREAMS NEVER END,NO LOVE LOST,LWTUA,SHE'S LOST CONTROL..and WARSAW.. (probably missed some..Alex's got the setlist)
I was moshing around with SAFETY PINS (the band),when they were chanting WARSAW!
Hooky "Ah you only want us to play it so we look shit compared to you....write you own fooking songs,yer little cunts!"
Oh and Clint Boon and John Robb turned up on DJ duties.
A surreal night because of how intimate the stage set up was,Hooky was looking at my "CURTIS,HOOK,MORRIS & SUMNER" shirt. I jokingly covered over Sumner's name with my hand.
And later we spent an hour outside with SECTION 25 and James the manager (great blokes).I say surreal because I'm out there chatting to them like I've just been to a jam night with them!

You're so lucky. Not only is Hooky a great hero of mine, I also really like Section 25. Knowing that they've been doing these shows together recently but not being able to go has been frustrating, to say the least. I have made a promise to myself that I will make it to a Freebass gig when they start touring, however. Looking forward to your photos and videos!
