586 was not tough to redo with the current lineup since there wasn't much of a bass line in it anyway. Hurt has both a synth bass plus Hooky's part; don't see them pulling that off with Chapman on bass. Any musician could tell you that Hooky's bass lines are brilliant sounding but not terribly difficult to play.

same here, im regularly shown videos of guitarists on youtube slashing and tapping very fast but ultimately its just noise to me and any arsehole can make noise on a guitar.

id like to see an updated version of everythings gone green but might not be what you expect with the extra guitarist

Indeed, I've been playing bass for a week and I can play Hurt! Not to mention a large number of other Hooky basslines! Not a criticism, they sound great, they're just pretty simple.

Harsh in the extreme, I think Chapman's additional flourishes and extras sound fantastic in Blue Monday. In particular the bit at the start of the outro. Chapman's doing a good job, he's not trying to be a Carbon copy of Hooky, but neither is he trying to do anything radically different. He's getting the balance just right in my opinoin.

I agree. I worry that when I see them people will sart shouting out 'Hooky! Hooky!' it must be a difficult situation for Chapman.

Anyway, Vanshing Point is a must, even though I voted for Hurt cos of the limited options (kinda like US politics) and after seeing that video.

Hooky said, as a criticism, that they used bass synths instead of copying his bass playing, thou I don't know what song he was talking about. But this would be a good idea to get a little creative, why not, and avoid the direct comparison. The "586" tweak is cool, have fun with some more old tracks.

The top 8 votes would all be interesing. "Face Up" would be hard to imagine, but hey, give it a shot. "Run" should get a revival also.

gotta be Sunrise for me, the track emits pure energy from start to finish. can imagine just leaping into the air when the drums kick in after the bassline intro. its also got a great end, just hear Barney's guitar finishing it off superbly.

To contradict what I said previously, only Hooky could pull this one off. I can't see Tom attacking the song the way Hooky does live.

OK checked bank account not as bad as I feared so IN for Brixton Thursday! Had to check our brilliant website to remember setlists for gigs I have been to: getting old, was wrecked etc. So never heard songs for me I want to hear: Vanishing Point, Mr Disco or Chemical please. Last one totally unlikely cue cheers but I love that song :)

Yes, that's the difference, Hooky attacks the bass lines.

Leave Me Alone, Lonesome Tonight would be a very close second.

I second this recommendation. Been listening to PC&L and The Village sounds better every time. Tom Chapman actually would do just fine on bass, and Phil would love playing the guitar part that Barney originally played. And Gillian would play fantastic synths, as always.

I love Leave Me Alone but live I'd rather hear Face Up. It's ripe for an update.
