Very similar to the Troxy. In fact I thought it was going to be the same until they played Round and Round.
yep that was it though i think BLT was a bit earlier, after Krafty maybe?
Didn't recognise Round & Round the first few seconds
Left before the encore as had to catch the train.

Great venue. Stayed at the bar throughout. Well at one of the many bars in that place. Couldn't see much though, too many tall buggers everywhere . Can't really remember much of the gig for some reason , possibly because I couldn't see much so it didnt register on my memory.Found late in the gig you could actually go outside for a cig . Went out for one during Perfect Kiss.
Having been disappointed by the Troxy gig, really enjoyed this... Like 1st night in Manchester, some said sound was crap nearer the back, but down the front it was cracking... Obvious highlights were Regret, Ceremony, AOC, TPK, Temptation, but really enjoyed Love Vig and BLT live for the first time in ages, and to my utter surprise Blue Monday... Wish they do something other than LWTUA for an encore - you didn't miss much Johnny! Managed to find my way back to the car without getting lost and back home in bed by 12.30... Result...

A long-standing gig-going buddy of mine ('Johnners') sent me this amusing review of Sunday's gig in Birmingham...
The venue was the same sweaty, sticky, fart-filled cavern where we saw Doves and Interpol in times gone by. The audience were grey haired, pot bellied and generally worn out though did well to drag up their last dregs of enthusiasm to nod heads vigorously as Kraftwerk's 'Computer World' boomed out in the build up to the opening number.
By this time, I was proudly wearing my new 'Ceremony' tee shirt with the slogan 'veritas'; right up my street. Barney waddled onto the stage as if auditioning for a part in Happy Feet 3. Never the lightest on his toes, they appeared nailed to the stage for large parts of the gig. With age, his head appears to be receding into his body giving him the look of a white version of the ex-bowler Gladstone Small aka 'the man with no neck'.
He was flanked by two young bucks on guitar who made up for the rest of the band's zimmer framed mobility by jumping up and down at every opportunity. Gillian stooped over her Roland with presumably dyed black hair, motionless as always. Meanwhile, Stephen was sporting some new NHS style glasses which strangely were also being worn by large numbers of the myopic crowd.
I'd like to say that they launched into 'Crystal' as the set opener but it was more like they fell into it. The impressive lighting display and backstage video screen immediately kicked in though one suspects partly to avoid the band's lined faces from coming under too much unwelcome scrutiny. After 'Crystal' it was the imperial 'Regret' and the moshers stirred, limbs twitching at the possibility of a jump.
An early surprise was 'Age of Consent' though this was partly spoilt by Barney's voice being drowned out by the alarmingly loud keyboards. Speaking of Barney's voice, why oh why has he never invested in any vocal training during 30 years at the top of his game? The nasal, Mancunian twang and the occasional whoop do not hide the fact that had history not taken a nasty twist he would never and should never have picked up a mike.
References to history continued when Barney introduced 'Ceremony' with an aside about today being a good day to 'top yourself' because it had rained for 24 hours. Still (note the double pun there - lol) it was a great version of ceremoanee and the highlight of the gig thus far.
Bladders being weaker these days most of the crown missed the middle of the set and, quite honestly, they would have been relieved (in more ways than one) to miss the god-awful croaking of 'A Perfect Kiss'. 'Krafty' was the surprise hit of the evening sparking the crowd back to life and reminding us all to check out if it really is that good when we got home.
By this time, Jane and I had retired to the balcony where we got a fantastic view of the crowd going truly mental as 'Temptation' got into full swing. Somewhat carried away by the moment, a large bruiser in the front rows tried some stage diving which unfortunately was a force from above that flattened the people down below (geddit?) through a combination of his bulk and their fragility.
'You've been a fantastic crowd' warbled Barney as he left the stage only for the crowd to chirp back with the chorus of LWTUA. Sure enough, the crowd had demonstrated uncanny powers of clairvoyance and we were soon bellowing out strange phrases like 'there's a taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold'.
Desperation did take hold in the mad dash to buy parking tickets and get home before midnight. It was Sunday night after all and, greatest band of all time aside, we're not the young men with weight on our shoulders that we used to be.

Well those of us expecting Arthur Baker tomorrow night will be getting tintin instead, as Baker has "gone AWOL" according to newordernow.net
