Brixton gigs

Did everyone have a nice time?

I couldnt make these gigs(which is partly my fault). Ive not heard much feedback as this site seems half abandoned while the other doesnt have many postings as yet.

Had an absolute scream in the moshpit last night (Thursday), brilliant.

It was great to be back at Brixton Academy after nearly 7 years since the NO gig there in 2005. Love that venue. I always seem to have a great time at gigs there.

"there's an air of finality to this London show – besides some summer festival dates and a slot at the Olympic closing show alongside Blur, this might really be it. A shame, then, that where you'd want a celebratory blow-out, you get a squib with the odd dramatic spark".

Reviewers write what they want, almost regardless of the gig, don’t they? They may be better at putting together a few paragraphs than the average punter but that doesn’t mean their opinions are more valid than the rest of us. "There's an air of finality about these shows" says the Guardian. Well there may not be new material to promote but that doesn’t mean it's necessarily the end, just journalistic presumption. The stuff about Gillian in the Quitus review, "It's a sexism that perhaps stems from some of New Order's more boorish fans, to be found slurping and gurning and stumbling around Brixton". You what?! It might be sexism in your own head matey, not to mention a bit of a put down on NO's fans, who the reviewer is of course better than. Sometimes I'd love to bash these people over the head with their own egos and make them get a real job. They do talk some tosh.

As for Thursday night, yes I enjoyed it thanks. Not as much as the Troxy, but that's possibly for the same reason that those who went to Paris/Belgium didn’t enjoy the Troxy as much as the first gigs. Familiarity breeds contempt. Well if not contempt, then the law of diminishing returns.

Not sure why NO had to make us wait til 9.30 to start the show. Tintins dj-ing was so loud that you had to stand there, unable to really talk, and just wait, and wait. 9pm really would have been better. No huge surprises. I was hoping for R&R, which didn’t happen. But at least we got Here To Stay. It wasn’t quite as well received as I had imagined. Ah well. I couldn’t decide if the sound was too loud or just badly mixed. I would agree with Barnard that something sounded out of tune for the first few songs. I think he threatened to take his guitar back to the shop. But these are just quibbles. Great to see em again at Brixton Academy (the 2005 gig mentioned above was perhaps one of my fave gigs ever by anyone). And nice to get LWTUA without too many (any?) whoops or "come ons"!

There has been quite a bit of sexism towards Gillian though...from Hooky and from those fans who think she matters less and than Hook, when what she brought to New Order and is bringing again is just as important. Gillian's synth lines are just as important to New Order as Hooky's bass.

we got to the venue about 9.10pm and the queue was still right round to the back of the Academy. Some people were saying New Order were going to come on late in order to allow time for all the many latecomers to get in! Don't know if that's true.

Agree about the 2005 gig. I was at that one. What a night that was One of the best New Order gigs i ever went to.

First time I ever got front row for New Order.

Great show, but you sort of miss the atmosphere of the crowd.

Nevertheless, films came out fine.

Great vantage point, with minimal knocking etc, so good quality clippage herein.

Go along with the point raised previously. Superb venue this. A multitude of boozers nearby and decent tube journeys there and back without being overly crammed.
