New Order are on at 17:45, Blur are due to finish at 23:15, according to this anyway : BT London Live
Don't know if the finishing at 00:30 is supposed to be the time everyone has to leave Hyde Park by, or if it means thats when the thing at the Olympic stadium is supposed to finish, I won't be hanging round if it means watching the Spice Girls on a screen.

Left after Love Will Tear Us Apart, I thought the whole thing was a shambles. Got there and and no one seemed to have any idea of what was going on, screens were saying there was a 30 minutes wait time to get in which is bad enough, but it turned out to be close to an hour before I got in in, missing the first ten minutes of the set - if I could have heard New Order playing when they got on stage while waiting I might have tolerated it, but no, they were playing sodding Squeeze and Elvis Costello over the speakers while I could see Bernard in the distance.
The queues at the bars were even worse, bad enough being charged £5 for a pint of Heineken without the every man for himself attitude and the five deep queues that ensued, after deciding I wasn't that bothered about a drink, it was next to impossible to get anywhere near a decent viewing point, having had an untold amount of wankers bumping into me while they pushed through without as much as an excuse me made me decide I didn't really give a shit about either The Specials or Blur and decided to leave the plebs at large to it and go for a drink in Mayfair. The actual set itself was good, nothing wrong with the sound or the performance, it was just everything else about the show that has made me decide not to see anything else at somewhere like Hyde Park again.

My feelings exactly on every point mate. Utter shambles. Worst gig i've ever been to as far as facilities are concerned. You mention Elvis Costello playing while you was in the queue, when we were queueing they did actually pump the NO set over at first doing Elegia then the start of Crystal but then stopped it and changed to Elvis Costello songs!! WTF?
New Order were good from what i saw when we finally got in but went to get a beer after that but it was just horrendous. Gave up queueing as it would have taken hours to get a drink and went for a lie down while The Specials were on but after them i'd had enough and left. Never witnessed such a shambles in all my life. Never going to a gig in Hyde Park again

As has been said already by Ken & Johnny - music great (I actually like Blur a fair bit, so wanted to stay for their set), however...
Queues for toilets/beer/food were horrendous - after a couple of hours of that (i.e. after The Specials had finished), decided to leave the festival and go back to the Canterbury Arms for a pint or two.
Now, all I have to do is to hope that Blur do some more gigs (non-festivals) at some point in the future (unlikely, and yeah, I know, they've just finished a small venues tour)... 💀

At least the beers in C/Arms beforehand was good practice for the mammoth bogs/beer/burger stands.

It's a shame because from what I saw of New Order's performance was really good, much better and livelier than Belgium two days earlier.
We left a couple of songs into Blur, I'd just had enough of the place.
Stinking attitude by some of the audience when it came to shoving people... that "Team GB spirit" in action... wankers.

New Order need to drop Elegia when opening at gigs that "aren't theirs". Talk about a killjoy of a song. Puts the audience on the backfoot from the off. Thought it was a mistake in Belgium after seeing Royksopp take the gig by the scruff of the neck, but opening with it at Hyde Park - and then dropping Regret - just seemed like suicide. Compare that to the Specials opening with Do The Dog and Blur opening with Boys and Girls - they had the audience in the palm of their hand right from the start. Just my two'penneth.

Tend to agree, Elegia works fine in a small venue environment but was kind of lost in a stadium-sized place like Hyde. Very surprised when I realised that Regret had been dropped, being one of their best-known singles and all. I would have done a Reading '98, gone straight into Regret then quickly followed up with Crystal. The band definitely played really well though and better than Belgium where Barney seemed to have a right cob on. Everyone around me was singing every word to LWTUA towards the end. What about that video as well? First time I've seen Bernard or Steve embracing the Joy Division legacy so publicly; "Joy Division Forever" and all that. Hooky's been doing it for so long you almost do forget they were in the band as well (!) a new red rag to the bull ahead of the JD book launch?
I'm seriously considering doing Wales now 'cos I don't want my last UK gig - in case they go back into hibernation in 2013 - to be Hyde bloody Park.
Not the band's fault the organisers fucked it all up; they did the music proud in the end.

I think, Elegia worked very well at this sport related gig. A relaxed Elegia at the start and an explosion with the first beats of crystal. It is as if the sprinters are leaving in the 100 meter run the starting blocks or the basketball game begins with a jump ball. Absolutely amazing!
The infrastructure (Bar, Food, toilets) were very poor for a crowd of 55.000 people. But the gigs were brilliant.
agree with the post gig reviews, barring not getting in until the end of Chrystal, so can not comment on Elegia. pennies worth being Belgium would have been a cheaper trip and by all accounts more fan friendly. hey ho, live and learn.

I use Ask & Record toolbar, which is great for audio (basically records whatever noise the pc makes at the time), but of late it doesn't record any videos anymore 😕 anyway, quality is way below Dime standards.
put it through Audacity to improve it a bit, this is the best I could do Hyde Park highlights
