I might be the only one wishing he was touring a New Fucking Song, instead of playing 40 year old songs as a tribute act to himself. He's had a decades worth of victory laps now.

I don't think it's a matter of expense. There's no special light show, and it's the same band. Joy Division nostalgia sells more tickets than New Order nostalgia, especially when New Order are still a going concern.
Having seen the tours, things start to sound dodgy after 1982. For the later albums the synth player is triggering obvious loops taken from CDs - you can tell by the sections used, and the way they're looped. I doubt Barney or Steve would give him access to the original synths (if they even still have them and/or they're in working condition) to build a better library of sounds.

Eh, so I'm wrong. Doesn't change the fact that the songs fall into "uncanny valley" territory for me - *almost* right, but just enough off that I can tell.

Haha, you're not the only one. I'm keeping things in the realms of reality here.
He's been threatening some new Monaco for a while, this last year seemed like an ideal opportunity to bang that out.

I'd only read Hooky's take on it before and it stuck in mind how painful it's become.

Yeah I'm a bit disappointed too, if only for completion sake. Have seen him do JD several times now including the orchestral thing a couple of years ago. Was keen to see the Technique and Republic shows even though, having listened a few times on Spotify, they easily sound the most wobbly. Despite or more likely because of the heavy use of Tycho Brahe backing tracks diminishing the organic quality of PH&tL gigs.
Saw The Light in 2014 (Low-Life and Brotherhood) and haven't been tempted again. I appreciate the intention of Hooky finding a way to celebrate his legacy that way. And the band perform amazingly well. It's just that I find it to be a bizarre combination of musically aping the records (which New Order didn't really try to do live, especially before Republic) but with the vocals being very different, for obvious reasons. I know there are the critics of New Odor without Hooky live, but I guess it's just personal preference.
I get why some people aren't enthused about the Hooky shows and I doubt there's anyone here who doesn't wish circumstances were different.
Part of it for me is simply an opportunity to share a NO night with fellow hardened fans, neck some ales, chat about the bands, connect for a few hours. Whether you believe it's a pantomime or not, you can't deny there's music history up there on stage -- and most likely he's going to bang it all out with one true passion.
Add in the fact that it's a little different in places like AU where we endured relatively long dry spells of no live shows. Makes some of us more susceptible to grabbing any NO-related opportunity that hits town.

Totally agree. I've seen him 7 times in and around Rome and I'm bored of JD. Even the early NO gig at Atlantico kicked off with Joy Division including Love will tear uzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Apart and Tranzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzmizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzion. I assume it's cos 'original member of JD plays Unknown Pleasures' is gonna shift more tickets than 'One of the brains behind Liar gives you... CHEMICAL!' There was the Substance tour, but that was the one I missed for reasons I won't bore you with.
Figure I may as well post here. The concerts were this weekend. I really, sincerely enjoyed it. Hearing the NO and JD songs interpreted by Hooky and his band.👌 Better than I was expecting. Hey look I grabbed a setlist!
The New Order part of the set, which was a highlight for me.
Made eye contact with Hooky several times. Really enjoyed his bass guitar and the efforts of the band. Unknown Pleasures really holds up as an album. Lots of Unknown Pleasures t-shirts in the crowd.
Really a phenomenal night. Would recommend for anyone familiar with JD or NO. Really fascinating hearing Peter Hook do his basslines for NO before switching into JD. His vocals were great too, hasn't aged since the 90's.
The encore was outstanding.
Shout out to this guy who caught the drumstick.
I feel the drummer did Steve Morris justice.

I prefer him doing Joy Division tracks, but glad you enjoyed it.
I find it peculiar that his New Order mini-sets rarely include "Dreams Never End" and "Doubts Even Here", of late. I appreciated him doing "What Do You Want From Me?" in San Francisco when I saw him earlier this year.
Catching Hooky's Brisbane gig this Friday night.
