Stephen & the Bunnymen

The Crystal Days box contains 3 previously unreleased tracks recorded during the time their drummer Pete DeFreitas went AWOL. The liner notes state: "With/DAVID PALMER or STEPHEN MORRIS: drums".

No recording date is indicated but would have been around June/July of 1986.

The playing/programming certainly sounds like it could be Stephen's work but David Palmer is capable of performing in this style as well.

I think it's odd that the drummer wasn't documented but this could be a result of the two playing on a different combination of songs.

Any thoughts?

Disc 3, tracks 3-5. "Lover I Love You" "Satisfaction" "New Direction"

The cover of In The Midnight Hour on disc four has the same credit as well.

I believe the confusion arises over the fact that those songs were originally recorded during a hazy orgy of drugs and booze under the artist name "Stevie and the JD's." It was not until years later that the unreleased tracks were attributed to the proper artist, although the drummer in question is still nebulous.

The upcoming Inland Invasion appearance by the Bunnymen (further discussion of which belongs in the Off-Topic Forum) reminded me of this question about Stephen's involvement.

New Order only played 3 concerts during June/July of 1986 and all were in the UK. There was a window of opportunity.
