Could someone please tell barney that for the last 3 years he has never once started singing in the right place on the current live version of BLT?? Even with 17 autocue's, 5 bits of paper and big sign saying "SING NOW!" he still can't manage it. Oh well, its still a great song!

It's not a question of Barney not getting the cue right for BLT in the lastest live versions, the silly old sod has NEVER been able to recreate the true spinetingling majesty of this divine song in ANY live rendition EVER!! You want proof? Then check out his atrocious singing on the version featured on the 1992 "New Order BBC Live At Glastonbury 1987" CD reissue. I almost cried.
His vocals seem to have improved a lot live recently. Oh, by the way... i would like to officially re-name True Faith as "Toothpaste". I think this sounds much better.

If you listen to the afore mentioned Glastonbury recording, Barney quite clearly states "This is a new song, we've never played it before. It's called Toothpaste".

for 'True Faith' I prefer 'toothache' not literally though but it's what you get after too much exposure to Steven Hague's saccharine production.
I wasn't personally at Glasto 87, but me good New Order chum Scotty came home from that weekend away saying New Order had played this great new choon, which Bernard had introduced as "Toothache"! My, how we chuckle when we recollect those heady days as teenagers.
What's wrong with BLT at the Glasto gig?! The way that choon chugs in is simply superb. Remember how Hooky dedicated it to the "Next generation of Blackburn lads" at the Festival of the 10th?! You could just tell it was gonna be the Next Big Anthem among the 'ardcore. And, my, how they've fucking ruined it with the current live version. Bring back the Bro'Hood version is what I say!
BLT, I remember Hooky nearly fell of the stage at the Barras in about '87 thrashing out the machine gun bass at the end of it. Yeah, the Brotherhood version is still the best. 
I think the current live version is good, went down a storm at the first Barras gig.
To be honest I always felt the Substance version was the definitive version anyway, although why it has no Hooky bass is beyond me. In fact the definitive BLT would be the Substance version plus the bass from the Brotherhood version.
I'm sure you would all agree.
I think the reason Barney screwed the into up at the 1987 Glast gig is quite simply that he was totaly pissed. I think he singing better than ever live now and his performance on Later last Friday was top, apart from the dodgy dancing!

Nope, the original is the best. Used to go off large style to that track at gigs - check out the Academy vid. These days it seems to be aimed more at enticing Those People Who Stand At The Back into jiggling their hips a bit, rather than aimed at the 'Ardcore Down The Front. The original just never let up. The current version seems to slow down as soon as Barney's vocal kicks [ahem] in. Oh, and did I also mention that the current Toothache is shite too. What a waste of a good song. That used to come in like a Light Aircraft landing in your living room. Now it just wimps in like a damp squib. No balls whatsoever.
I lost a shoe in the 'BLT ruck' at the Academy '87 gig.
After the show remember walking around Picadilly Circus in a daze when it was persisting down trying to find a bus to Paddinton Station where we ended up sleeping the night under some cardboard.

By the way, if anyone's got a tape of Tower Ballroom in 86 there is a class version of BLT on this.
I recently came across some photos from this tour and have about 3-4 that are real 'classic era New Order'
I haven't got a scanner though and I'm sure tha ladies would like a picture of Barney all muscular and svelte like in a bundeswehr vest - anyone got any ideas how I can post these piccies up?

I of course agree with the ideal BLT version, as I already stated some time ago on this board.
To me, BLT's 12" is very special as it was the very 1st NO record I bought at the time of its release and I was crazy about it. Only heard the album a bit later.

I used to own a Bundeswehr vest! Very cool. Remember Hooky used to wear one a lot too. He used to have that t-shirt which also read "Kill Them All, Let God Sort 'Em Out". I bought one of those from an Army surplus store. How sad.
I think Allen needs to be referred to as the Professor from now on. The 98 perfecto Edit version of Toothache they mime these days does lack the power of the original and I totally agree about BLT. The recordings I have from 86 include excellent live versions of BLT. Bring back different sets. I can't believe Peter Hook allows the same exact set to be played every night after listening to him on the 82 interview. I don't recall his exact words on the subject but he said something to the effect of "I don't want to play production line gigs every night" and "I think it's a rip-off to include singles on albums".........So Much To Answer For!!!

I obviously haven't been to as many gigs as yourself, so bow down to your superior knowledge! However, what I will say is that the versions of BLT and True Faith at Reading 98 are far superior to those of Glastonbury 87. I also think the updated version of TBTHOG is the best yet and again, was immense at Reading 98.
Mind you, it would be nice to think that they could come up with more imaginative ways of updating Blue Monday and maybe then, even they would be more up for playing it.
Eeek. I think the new version of Touched is terrible. A trio of Touched, Toothache and BLT used to raaack the way Crystal, Transmish and Regret stirred the masses at the recent gigs. I just find 'em a tad toothless now.
Well I think you've got a point about True Faith, it isn't as hard as the original. To be fair though they all sounded immense at Reading.
You'll probably find this controversial as well then, as I think the NO Isolation to be better than the JD version. The opposite for Love Will Tear Us Apart though.
Why do they have to play the same set every night? If the interview at Steinberg is true, Roger Lyons has been programming all the electronic bits for the live show. Can't they continue to add new songs with a little work from Roger and a lyric sheet for Barney? I can't sit by and watch New Order turn into a greatest hits live show for the duration of their career. So many songs to play! It's a shame they insist on keeping the same set of oldies for the last 4 years. BLT, True Faith, Touched, BM------give em a rest and lets hear Perfect Kiss, Sunrise, Procession, All Day Long, Vanishing Point etc... do they enjoy playing the same set every night?
I think the New Order version of Isolation is infinitely better than the Joy Div version. But then technology has moved on 20+ years since!

You seem to all agree on what I was trying to plea for in an older thread where I was hoping for New Order to play more songs, and to RE-WORK a lot of them, adding a new edge to them.
I think Bizarre Love Triangle could use to ve revamped a little. I would be curious to see what the Pet Shop Boys would do with it, granted that they did a fantastic rework job of some of their older songs for their Nightlife Tour (anyone who heard the versions of West End Girls, Only The Wind and Can You Forgive Her, for instance, will know what I mean).
I would like them to keep the full intro of the 12" version of BLT, especially the part where you can hear the instrumental melody going before Barney starts to sing -- it brings everything up into some sort of climax.
And they could add a very techno/acid part right in the middle or at some point in the song, like, once again, the PSB have done for BEING BORING.
And Blue Monday would be a fantastic opportunity for anyone who would do some re-work there as well. For some reason, they've been playing one of the most boring versions of that song I've heard in their whole career.
But I DO like their actual version of Touched By The Hand of God, though... that techno bassline is great!
