The ULTIMATE list - 'Official' results now in...

The votes have been cast, the excitement has escalated to previously unheard of proportions and now, finally, the Huntsman can reveal the overall winners of the OrderLine ‘Official’ greatest hits of New Order arbitrary survey for no practical purpose.

Some excellent decisions seem to have been made by the faithful here - seeing, of note, the hit song 'Regret' romping in at a hefty '9' individual votes - that’s more than ANY OTHER SONG (except 1)... Curiously, and most probably due to this being the only song anyone ever remembers from the dismal 'Movement' - 'Dreams Never End' ties with 'Regret' for most votes!!! - The ever popular 'Bizarre Love Triangle' from the 1986 'chart shy' album 'Brotherhood' re-affirms its position in our hearts... it might not be an indie grunge fest you’d pop on your stereogram to impress your most hardened mates, but its certainly a lovers melody buried deep in our souls for evermore... and now its official.

The dirty fight between 'Age of Consent', 'Leave Me Alone' and 'The Village' from the Corruption album was a toughly fought bout... with 'AOC' just eclipsing the others by '2' votes. I'm sure you'd agree with me that this was one of the most disappointing results. 'Crystal' and 'Turn My Feet' were offered little resistance for the 'Getting Things Ready' pole positions, not one single human vote for 'Rocking the Shithouse' fiasco (just for the records). 'Vanishing Point' and 'Dreaming about Attacks' confirmed what we already knew but were too frightened to admit... that 'Technique's' best songs are the ones that touch our heartstrings like angels with several finely tuned harps.

'True Fate' and 'Temptation' raised above all others to claim the most favoured single title, however, 'Ceremony' was a real genuine contender until the closing votes raced in from left-of-field and clinched it like a thief through the nightgown.

Yes Huntsmule, you've surpassed even our wildest expectations with this one, not a bad list at all by anyones standards, though the ommission of the multiple orgasm that is The Perfect Kiss is a real shockarooney! It may be interesting to do the same with just the albums to see what the many and varied furry woodland creatures who gather at the Orderline watering hole deem to be the best. A top three per person I suggest, with the votes being assimilated by your good self once more. It may bring a surprise or two. I'll await the new thread with baited breath!

I agree, Huntsy, the absence of Leave Me A Loan is quite upsetting, especially after GR's dismal US chart position. The presence of Loaves of Violence is also disappointing. And how account for no TF, no Subbasement, no Prefect's Kiss? But apart from these childish nitpickings on my part (what do you expect from an eternal 12-year-old?) that was a very worthwhile exercise, H. Nice to see the correct results on GR.

Well fellas there's little chance of me organising another best of list... doing that one was akin to working a full midnight shift at Jeff White's consumer superstore paradise of crisps with the assistant manager on my back for a pringles stack tumble that was almost no fault of my own. Muffboxer you'll have to take the mantle should you require further best of stats. - I is bushwacked.

I think 'El Jarvo hits the various nails square on the teat with his assessment that the Order should adopt our fave list for forthcoming gigs.. I mean, 'Age of Conquest' or 'Slow Jam Butties'? - is there any debating that? - good god no I hear you all shout you little munchkin chasers.

I think this hit list is a true belter... Throw Me a Bone was an annoying omission but you can't have everything in this life... I mean, despite the fact that the affluent wheelchair based texan tycoon 'Wheelchair Ronnie' managed to bag himself the ample chested Anne-Nicole Smith he kicked his own bucket far too early. He had money, a good set of titties but wasted himself far too early, persumably prior to a mammoth sex sesh where Ronnie was going to stick his nose up Annie's arse.

Oh well - I went of on a tangent there but its Friday so what the hey hey where the monkey nuts!!!

regarding Jarv's suggestion-which would of course be superb if they would do it...would you include any JD songs on their live set? I personally thought Transmission may well have been the highlight of their live show.

Briggsy, I agree - Transmission was like a choice racehorse in amongst a herd of below par pit ponies. It did stand out and the crowd cheered and threw sticks at each other. I didn't want to go down the JD route for Best Of discussions because so many worms would escape and scuttle up your trouser leg. There are about 8 Joy Division tracks I would dearly like to hear live but personally, their recent lacklustre version of Love Will Tear The Both of Us Wide Apart was tap water. After all, they're meant to be pionners of the synth and the bog standard 'String Preset 1' off a Toy Town synth for 50 quid was just lazy, and quite frankly, offensive to the good name of Joy Divisional. I fear Ian Curtains was most porbably turning around in his own gravy boat after hearing it.

So - provided they were to do 'good' versions, yes, let's bung in the JD classics.

The song of my own is very old Sebb, so apologies. I have been writing over the last 5 years solely on my own and intend to record again after I've built my own home studio which currently sits on top of my girlfriends head.

Sebbsy I spent about 3 solid weeks mixing that song so it sounded hard edged, gritty and utterly morbid.... to say that it sounds like 'Electronic' is nothing short of blasphemy and I have taken the liberty of stocking up the Huntsman's Bedford Rascal with a wide and varied range of high explosives and illegal weaponry obtained by the head of the Taliban 'John'. Expect smoke and a whole lotta gunfire down your road very soon... I'll beep my horn to let you know when I'm coming.

Christ, sorry huntsy! When I say Electronic I did mean the first album in the least-the guitar sections reminded me of Idiot Country a little. I meant particuarly in the synth/guitar ratio rather than the actual production...
