Has AJW ever posted here? He used to post on WIM a lot. At the end of the day anyone can come on here and - basically - type "New Order are shit!" to reel people in. The thing that offended me about AJW is that he professed to be some sort of uber-fan and it's his god-given right to slag off the band, because he was here from Day One. Hmmm.
aj wells is fucking hilarious, in that smug, "i am in tune with the true spirit of new order, you, my friend are not" kinda way. i always envisage him to be like an older version of the character that runs the comics shop in the simpsons. bring him on.i could take him.
I think AJW reads too much into it all, thinking that New Order, individually, are Ethereal Geniuses and their music is in some way Important or Means Something. Whereas most people have wised up to the fact they're just ordinary blokes (and one ordinary) bird from Oop North, which is the principal reason we luv 'em. I think he'd have the shock of his life if he'd attended any of the recent UK gigs.
That IS part of the appeal, ordinary folk who make extraordinary music.
It's the little idiosyncracies that make you luv 'em. I mean Oasis have a repuation for alcohol and substance abuse and gain a lot of tabloid inches for their 'exploits', but they're choirboys compared to New Order. Stuff like losing monmey on every copy of the biggest selling 12 inch ever just makes their appeal even more endearing.
Basically though, it's just the fact that they really don't give a fuck which appeals to me.

OK then, what are New Order all about? What's the "idea" behind them?
The idea behind "New Order" is to think and act for yourself, value your sensibilities even if they differ from others or make no sense in a particular context... to take what you have and make something wonderful of it... to never take anything for granted, to not openly talk about things which shouldnt be talked about... to find magic and renewal in everyday experience... to push your limits and break them down...
The idea, if there is one, behind "NewOrder" as it presently exists is... to accept what you are given, dont question, just rock out... accept things as they are, you cant change them... purchase a now-congealed "fresh" experience and feel great about yourself for doing it... worship your new rock idols as though they can do no wrong... find reasons to enjoy lifeless experiences by projecting your own experiences and those of the bands past upon them... dont listen to or be aware of new music because its too complicated and too much trouble and there isnt very much good out there anyway... ease up on aging artists because life is hard enough and we should be greatful that old buggers release anything at all... the worst record by your idol is better than nothing; its not like there is anything better out there
You know, the same attitudes that fans of Rod Stewart and Yes had in 1978...
