Can anyone tell me WHY the band refuses to play in their videos since Spooky?

Seriously, they've all been in their respective side-project videos.. why not as New Order?

Is this some kind of "attitude showing" or what? Is it something strategic?!

I just seriously don't get it.. hope they will be in the video with Baldy..!

I'm also hoping that they will be in the next video. Maybe this time it's because they are busy touring or something...

I wish they could take the tame to appear in their next video..

i heard barney in a interview saying that new order don't like being in their own videos because they're too lazy. i also heard johnny marr say almost the same thing about doing videos with electronic.

I would quite like seeing them go more with an approach similar to the video for World, thecameo type thing. I mean World is not the best tune, but I love that video, with each members little moment in the camera viewfinder.

I don't think it's necessary for them to be in the videos, but I do think it helps if the videos are good rather than stupid.

The best two videos for me are Regret and World but not particularly because they're in them. But fuck, how I hate the ones they put live clips in. I expect the record company will try to force them to appear in the videos for the American singles from now on in some sort of attempt to boost sales. :smoking:

My recollection is the BLT video didn't have them at all and True Faith didn't have a huge amount of them, and for me both of those videos were quite good.

Take out the stupid, pointless live clips and they would have been better. :smoking:

Speaking of live clips... I pray to god that the next video wont consist of live clips from some concert. Many bands do that, especially with 'extra' single releases that are released just to boost sales of the album, and they're too lazy to make a new video - so they just put together something from the tour. That is so unimaginative.

Why hasn't anybody been discussing New Order's GREATEST VIDEO OF ALL TIME???

"Touched By The Hand Of God" - you've got it ALL there!! THE BAND! THE MADNESS! THE "LIVE PERFORMANCE"!! THE PATHOS!! THE INNUENDO!! THE SELF-PARODY!! What more could you want?

Anyway. I've never been a big fan of videos - not even since the gory glory airbrushed days of the 80's - It's the music that matters. Why do bands have to spend fortunes plugging their records visually? If they want to do that, make a movie then. Or a documentary. Video promos leave me cold. I can honestly say I've only sat through about three-or-four-dozen band videos in my whole lifetime. I just don't take the time to check 'em out. Even if they ARE by all my favourite bands.

(You can guess I've never subscribed to MTV then.....!)

I hate the "live clip" videos where bands tend to mix stage footage with scenes of them "being normal" (ie, playing around, showing off how rich they are, but good-natured). This seems to be an epidemic with country music videos (along with the obligatory looking-up-from-underneath-cowboy-hat-seductively pose). Perhaps it's more crative for them NOT to appear in their own videos after all....

The 'greatest videos' thing has already been discussed, Martin. And although I find TBTHOG hilarious, I think 'The Perfect Kiss' is the most beatiful video ever made.

But, well, let's not start this debate once again, erm...

Radiohead's 'Just' is a fabulous vid too, by the way...

Have you seen Thom Yorke nearly drowning during the filming of the video for "No Surprises" though?

(I might get ridiculed for this - especially on a New Order message board, but I DO like Radiohead - I have all their albums....they've done many cracking songs you know.)

No Surprises is a great video, i saw some thing on the making of it, don't ask me where, and he had to do it about 4 times because he kept running out of air and starting to drown

I love Radiohead but I prefer them when they're not afraid of a beautiful tune :

The Radiohead I like best : High and Dry, Fake Plastic Trees, No Surprises, Exit Music, the closing track on Kid A.

Well, that kind of stuff.

The thing about the shooting of No Surprises appeared in the movie 'Meeting People Is Easy'

They are indeed in the BLT video.. but you don't see them from close.

The screen is split 3 ways and the band is live in one of the stripes...
