Pyramid scheme

After reading some of the problems those of us stuck with 56k modems have with DNE, (desperately trying to piss on any bonfires due to the fine work you are doing) is it worth suggesting a pyramid scheme? Most of us will have CD-R so if each person only has to forward 2 discs the cost could be lower than phone lines. If whoever was to end up on the bottom row of the pyramid were to send anything to the initiator, the administrator would end with a hell of a collection, as we all would. It would hopefully end up with the best tapes coming to the surface - many suffer from nth generation copies and many gigs will have had a number of recordings made. How about vcd's?

On the Sisters 'myheartland' site, people 'weed' gigs by posting a CD on a thread offering the gig to the first two people who ask for it. When that is recieved it then gets weeded out to two further people until everyone who wants it, has it. It works quite well.:)

Shall we go for it ? Obviously there is a loss in quality the further away you get from the master.

It would need proper organising and regulation. Who's got time ?

We could stick to CDs only. If copies are burnt using max 4x speed, there should not be a quality issue. As long as each copy is checked for clicks/pops etc before it is posted out. Unless a seperate 'Weeding' section is created in the Forum menu, we could post in the 'buy, sell, trade' section

As I said, it works well on the myheartland site just try not to win each weeded gig at the exclusion of others !

I'll start the ball rolling then. I've lifted the rules from My Heartland, and will stick them on a new thread on Buy Trade Sell. Maybe Spotnick could make it a sticky, or give it its own forum ?

I won't reveal the gig until ready though, so there is no point in anyone mailing me just yet !

I think it's an excellent idea - I've seen it done on Neil Young websites as well (don't mock - Barney likes Cortez The Killer!). I think it's not really on to charge for boots of concerts (beyond the cost of the CD itself) and there are people on this list (Tim for one, and Tracey Spivey) who are very generous and shouldn't be taken advantage of!!!
