The Happy One?

Hi everyone,

I sometimes watch the substance video to just hear the snipits of The Happy one song...I downloaded the mp3, but was disappointed to hear that it is the song from the video that has been cut and pasted together; which sounds OK..but was "The Happy One" ever released on a b-side? If there a full length, unedited version of that song out there?

i think every new order fan would love to hear the full version of 'the Happy one'. Its probably lurking in some vault somewhere....

Maybe it'll just turn up one day like that 16 minute version of Elegia did.

What 16-minute version of "Elegia"??

(I do recall Stephen Morris going on about how they "Had to edit the fuck out of that track" cos it seemed to go on and on - you can even hear the edit clearly, right at the end, when the guitar climax comes in just prior to the fade, but I've never heard the full version - where did you get it from???)

Just checked out some of the audio snippets for the first time.....good god, I didn't know there were so many collected there! Thanks for directing me to them: Yes, I've now had a listen to the full-length version of "Elegia" and can fully understand why Stephen Morris said what he did at the time about having to chop it to under 5 minutes: bloody hell, it doesn't half go on!! Makes a Yes album sound like a Ramones out-take in comparison!!

I also had a listen to a few other gems hidden amongst a lot of the gratuitous remixes and live takes there: I shall pass judgement on some of the versions of "Confusion" except to say that it wasn't a very strong song to begin with. As for Dave Clarke's shite remix of "Everything's Gone Green" for (The Rest Of) NO, it pretty much confirms my refusal to buy that compilation in the first instance: My worst fears about the whole pointless remix project (The Rest Of)... were realised : just hearing that wretched crappy "BOOM-SHH!! BOOM-SHH!! BOOM-SHH!! BOOM-SHH!!" intro for the first six seconds was enough to make me hit the stop button immediately. Wankers! What the fuck are they doing pissing about with classic NO songs like that?

Anyway: the rare mix of "Evil Dust" was revealing. As was the Aussie 12" mix of "Paradise". The 1998 version of "T.B.T.H.O.G" was kinda freaky. I rather liked that. The original demo of "let's Go" was a real eye-opener, however. You can fully understand why Barney & Co. decided to let that one lie for a few years until a stronger vocal/lyric/melody line was added to it for the 1995 release c/w 1963 (Arthur Baker mix).

I presume the MP3's could be downloaded, even tho they'd probably take years to do so...but can the Real Audio snippets be done likewise?? Hmmmm. Most intriguing!

I think the demo of Let's Go is much better than the newer version, but i'm probably on my own with that one!

I have the CD that it was released on, it's called Palatine Lane and was given away free with some French music mag to promote......you guessed it, Palatine.

The CD itself contains five tracks from said compilation, with snippets of The Happy One sprinkled in between each track, very much like on the video.

You're not alone!! Is the original version in the archives.. think I shall check it out. The mp3 i've got is not of good quality, very noisy..
