Gonna flog some bootlegs on Ebay

Going to make some of my live boots available on ebay. They will just be CDR, and will be about a fiver. Just wanted to give you guys the headsup since I aint sellin them to you guys at that price, cos u guys wouldn't sell em to me at that price. Wait for them to appear (in the next few days) and then just use the "ask a question" button to get in touch and tell me yer a NOOL'er, so we can negotiate some discount:-P

Good point, but I wanted this to be info for our brothers and sisters rather than a sales pitch. Wouldn't want any of the Brotherhood paying "other ranks" prices. Figured this was the most widely read forum.

Beware selling live boots on Ebay - more than one person has had the BPI coming down on them as a result of this. Basically you can't sell them anywhere that is semi-official such as Ebay and expect to get away with it. They pay you a visit, take your CDs and the equipment that allows you to produce them, and slap a hefty fine.

I know someone who put a bootleg video on Ebay and got a severe warning.

Well, the question is one of license. If the issue is one of that RECORDING being booted, then there is no case as those recordings are not comercial nproducts in the first place ( or have London released all NO's gigs while I wasn't looking) If however it is a question of the material being copyright, then again, that's OK because all the ppl purchasing them will own licenses for the songs already. Besides, a coupla mates of mine have been selling pirate seasons of certain TV shows ( something I think is highly dodgy since the stuff is available in the shpos), and getting more or less away with it. This is gonna be a one hit anyway, just gonna stick em up, and see what happens, if I get yelled at I'll quit, no questions asked.

From a US perspective the RIAA will get involved too. They patrol eBay regularly. Hillary Rosen, who heads up the RIAA, is their eBay name. Be careful...

looking through today i found some bloke selling cdr copies of albums he's bought

doesnt actually say they are cdrs

but he's selling whole collections of albums by bands 6 or 7 cds at a time, with no sleeves or cases & all the cd's are picture ones

Been reading the posts from the good folk over at DNE. Since I cannot ensure that none of the gigs I have did not come from there ( lots came from p2p networks) I shall not stick anything on Ebay just yet. Once I know what ones I have are OK I will post them. Meantime I will post a list here (well on the trade forum), in the near future. of what I have and will do them out at about 2.50GBP + P+P. But as I said I will get meself a username and pass for DNE and look there ( as well as checking with the bosses) to make sure I aint steppiing on any toes.

Just don't do it - selling boots is bad news full stop. Not only does it bring others into what is best left underground, it also sticks two fingers up at those of us who have quite happily given CDs etc free to other people.

You're right I suppose, I shall not bother. Not like I was proposing to get rich quick, just help some broadbandless folks out and make meself a couple pints for Xmas. Last thing I would want to do is take the piss outta people.

We do not keep a log of what we put up at dreamsneverend.com. A lot of the gigs we put up were donated by members of NOOL. We put a gig up, leave there for a few weeks then take it down. The purpose of us setting up the site is to share gigs that many of us never had the opportunity to experience live. We do not profit for offering this to fans. We also do look down on people selling boots on ebay. Nothing personal. you can do what you want. You might need to send us a list of your gigs that you are selling so we can make sure if we do have it, we don't put it on our site. We don't want anyone selling boots linked to us in anyway.

Sorry for sounding like a D*ck about this, but we just need to make sure we protect ourselves

I completely understand, and I am simply not gonna bother at all. I'll be sending you guys a list of gigs in the near future to see if you want any of mine you may not have. No you don't sound like a Wilson at all:)

Personally I don't like anyone converting from mp3 to cd audio and then trading or selling them in that form. If they started as mp3 I'd say if you _must_ sell them sell them as disks of mp3s. Otherwise people think they're getting proper cd audio quality when they aren't. Worse, people will then rip mp3s from those and then there will be 2nd generation mp3s in circulation...

yeah, Steve gets points for at least letting people know what he was gonna do and then reevaluating the situation after hearing the other side. the folks on NOOL have been extremely kind in sharing with other fans so when we see someone selling what can be had for a fair trade, is outrageous. i have TONS of stuff i could make cash with on EBAY i.e. Stacks of DJ Sets taken from soundboards here in Seattle...big names too but i gave them my word i wouldn't sell their sets in order to hook up my mini-disc to the mixer. I also have compiled a series of RARE VINYL ONLY compilations of early techno and 92/93 era progressive house (spooky, lionrock, leftfield, orbital, underworld etc.) discs that could sell on ebay but it just doesn't seem right....not to mention the legal issues.
