You are all probably aware of this but I followed a link from Known Pleasures to his web site and discovered that he is in a band!! There are are about 4 songs that are available to be listened to and I must admit they are pretty damn good. I do like the vocalists voice. Leave Me Alone is well worth a listen.

Well thanks for the plug Dave - over on the "Community" forum area of this site, the songs are part of the competition that has been going on for months.
I should point out that bass fiend Jim Reilly does the vocal on Leave Me Alone, not me !

i wonder which sound he will make when he gets to the ground. the man is flying. i hope he has a parachute! ![]()
where have you been all this time? and you´re not visiting the Community forum very often, do you? ![]()
Always nice to have some publicity :)
Big rehearsal last night may have spawned two new original tracks as well, wound it up with a huge jam. Dead Souls, Transmission and Shadowplay are sounding rather spiffing, and Ice Age kicks ass !

Passover is absolutely my favourite JD song ever in the history of everness. Didn't think anyone would ever do it justice, but I was wrong...

I have now found the community forum, studied the Known Pleasures website so thanks for pointing that out. The conclusion is that after listening to all the available excerpts I want the FULL length versions. These guys are good! Nothing will compare to the original JD style obviously and I never had liked covers by any band not least someone taking the JD stuff, but this band certainly does them justice. I still cant get over the vocals on Leave Me Alone....I love the sound of that voice. The other tracks too are very very good, a different voice and very well suited. When are they playing live??? Any gigs in the North of England?
Just as well we don't do The Man Whose Head Expanded ! :shy:
Well, we still need a 4th member at the moment, as the problem with a lot of JD stuff is that it is very difficult to play and sing at the same time, which limits the choice of number in a live set. Stuff like Dead Souls still sounds really powerful, but stuff like Colony is quite hard to get the different rhythms right and singing while playing. If a crash-hot vocalist comes along then I will stick to just guitar, otherwise we are looking for a guitarist who doesn't mind tinkling the ivories as well on occasion. As soon as this is sorted out and a couple more rehearsals, we'll be out and about at a venue near you !

What you need are some small venues. These as I am sure most will agree are much more intimate and the atmosphere is excellent. How about following in the roots of New Order circa 80-82, if the venues still exist! Brum Cedar Club for example, Derby Blue Note, Sheffield Romeo&Julliets,Leeds Roots club...you all get the drift? Well, whatever I for one would visit them next time they play. On a serious note if the band need "contacts" of any northern venues I for one would be interested in at least helping out in the Sheffield/Doncaster/Leeds areas and I am sure there are others here at NOOL in other parts of the country who would be interested?
How about Talbot Tabernacle. BTW, where the fuck is that in London? Someone told me that it was near Portobello Road?
Anyone go to that gig, any stories?

Is was in Ladbroke Grove, so if someone told you it was near the Portobello Road perhaps it's the venue we know now as the Subterranea? Cos I can't think of another venue anywhere in that area, unless it was just some old hall or something which doesn't exist anymore?

Derby 'Blue Note'?? Not the same Blue Note that a number of revellers from this forum visited a while back, and which I used to frequent during my Derby-dwelling days? Did they actually play there?? I knew they did the Dial circa ('82?) but the Blue Note seems a bit pokey for a band plus equipment etc....

Yup.
If you need any venue / contact details around Liverpool / Wirral let me know. I'll come and watch you.
Cheers

Cheers Dave, we wouldn't be adverse to a support slot at one of your shows, but we need a 4th member first !!
Brum Cedar club closed not long after the NO gig I think. The Imperial Cinema is no longer there, the tower ballroom doesn't do gigs and the Powerhouse is a naff club. Thank god the Hummingbird re-opened as the Academy.

Didn't the Cedar Club become Edwards #8, or am I thinking of somewhere else ?

I know what you mean as there are only 3 of us. We used to play with sequencers which are a pain in the arse (as anyone who saw early electro New order can tell you).
Since then we have recorded the sequenced sounds and play along with either CD or minidisk like most bands (including the order do now). I suppose you could put guitar sounds on and hope your drummer can play in time with them.
I can give you some sequence tracks if you want, like Blue Monday or Your Silent Face. If you want them email me a postal address and I will send them.
Cheers
Dave
Thanks Dave - I've done about 35 NO tracks on sequencer now, working on them most evenings, just MIDI stuff into Cubase. The biggest problem we would have with live stuff at the moment is playing JD guitar stuff - not all of it is easy to play and sing at the same time, so ideally I would like to get a singer in !

yes indeed they managed to squeeze into the blue note...a tiny club which is still going strong in sadlergate...( no gigs anymore just club nights )
i confess that i cant remember them playing the dial??
my sketchy memory thinks that the only performances in my home town were at the above mentioned blue note..i think jd supported the buzzcocks at kings hall..( now closed ) and they may have headlined at the adjanta theatre..( again now closed )..not 100% sure of that gig..tim??
the dial bar was renamed as the warehouse and has played host to revenge and acr..(twice)..all fantastic nights.
now all that derby gets is david essex and jethro !!!!

New Order never played the Dial, as far as I am aware. Blue Note in 82 is their only Derby appearance. JD did the Ajanta Cinema as the penultimate gig.

Can't go revealing all our hand at once ! This will follow, as will a few other bits and pieces. Dead Souls anyone ? Novelty ? Transmission ? Ceremony ? Shadowplay ? Live and unexpurgated direct from rehearsals.....

I was going to post some soundclips from a rehearsal tape last night, but had a bit of difficulty getting the sound balance right - the old ghetto blaster recording method ain't that effective these days, and you can't hear much vocal as everything is drowned in flange (cue Shug's "mucky mind"). I'll definitely do a pro-recording job on the next rehearsal and let you have Novelty etc. Transmission and Shadowplay were good, but everyone's heard them to death !
