Ahead comes from the album 'The ideal copy' which came out in 1985. It was Wire's first album on their reformation. A fine album it is too imho, if a little heavy on the New Order influence.
thank god im not alone in this one, some of the wire's lyrics are hilarious, serious of snakes is a particular favourite, SHNAKEEEE!!!
Anyone listened to their new album "Send"? Hell, it's great imo - the problem is, you don't understand any lyrics, they simply fucked up the mix, I guess.
Ahead, doesn't it sound like U2 a little bit as well? Was my impression when I first heard it.![]()
You're not alone in thinking that. I can remember back in 1985 I was vaguely aware that Wire were a punk band from the late 70s but I'd never heard anything, then Janice Long played "Ahead" one night and I thought they've ripped off Temptation! Loved it and have bought nearly all their stuff since. "Torch It" off "Manscape" is my particular favourite from their second phase. Their first incarnation which I worked back to has too many classic songs to mention.
They recently did some new stuff ("Read & Burn") which was pretty good too.
Good to see some members of that generation still cutting it!![]()

Oh yes I bought that album, it's very very good, one of Wire's best, I'm quite a big Wire fan too! I think they intentionally mixed the vocals like that...
I've always seen them as potential equals to New Order's legacy ![]()
