Can't really get worked up about anyone else the way I can with New Order, but ACR have always been there on the backburner, and the Mondays were a big fave for a while although they've blotted their copybook somewhat over the years and I don't bother with them so much anymore. Have gone through periods of following the Fall and Orbital as well, and current faves include Kraftwerk (again, been listening to loads of their stuff recently), Ladytron, Audio Bullys and Client. Have always been a dancemuzak head though so that's been a constant feature from electro and acid house in me yoof through to watching mates play out these days.

Ooooh, that Client record is eversogood: isn't one of them the lass that used to be in virtual NewOrder tribute band 'Technique'??
Glad to see lots of namechecks for the Cocteaus: while, say, the Order, the Bunnymen, The Smiths & the Pixies (always preferred the Muses, meself) etc. are still regularly namechecked as the cream of 80s 'alternative' pop, Robin, Liz & Simon seem to have fallen by the wayside in terms of critical recognition, which is bloody scandalous, IMHO. Personally think they have plenty in common with New Order in terms of their lack of emphasis on words, numerous songs about shagging, and the foregrounding of emotion-through-abstraction. Plus Raymonde 'borrowed' Hooky's bass sound, of course!!

Yeah, two girls: one from Dubstar, t'other Technique. Johnny Giles was raving about them after seeing 'em support Ladytron in Germany. I didn't think that much of the album initially but having seen them live it all clicked into place. Such attitude. Love the accents too. "Fook off, don't tooch me there".
Cocteaus. I should add them to my list too, though they're not something I listen to much these days. Quality band in their day.
I hear a lot of this music called "krautrock".Bands like Can, Popul Vuh, Amon Düül, Ash Ra Tempel, Cluster or Tangerine Dream. Also I'm searching for the roots of electronic music. "OHM - the early gurus of electronic music" is a very interesting compilation. I think neworder is by far the poppiest sound i listen to. AND IT'S THE BEST !! + !!!

I imagine it must stem from Dame Stephen's own venomous sideswipes at Joy Division. All disco is vile, dontcha know, even death disco. New Order have been my one constant for the last 20 years. I've had a passing interest in the following bands as well but most of them only had a brief run before they called it quits or slid back in mediocrity:
Wedding Present (especially their records from 1989-1992) The Ocean Blue (Not their early stuff but the later "See" and "Davy Jones Locker") Adorable (also more recently, Polak) Smoking Popes (especially "Destination Failure") Early Wild Swans (especially the new release of demos and radio sessions from Renascent) Ian McCulloch (The first two solo albums and the live shows) Housemartins (as long as you exclude the dreadful "Caravan of Love" single) Lloyd Cole and the Commotions (but not Lloyd's solo albums where he somehow lost his mojo) Miles Hunt (especially the acoustic shows) James Groundwell and Ned's Atomic Dustbin (but not Ned's first album) Pixies And for my Brazilian friends I've always really liked Legiao Urbana no matter what anyone else thinks.
