to go back to the original question wasn't he the captain of the ship in 2001? he was certainly a crew member (& by all accounts a Spurs fan who contributed some of the worst FA cup songs to English pop history)

It was 2001, of course, when HAL was oh so slowly being killed off by Dave (one of the two astronauts left awake, and the one who made it back to the ship). :thumb:

It's David Bowman, the Discovery commander, played by Keir Dullea in 2001. The dialogue was taken from the scene where Bowman switches-off HAL (hence the "my mind is going, Dave..." bit)
