The 'Depeche Mode are filth or shite' post redux

This is in response to the recent post on this board asking if DM are filth or shite. I mean, how could we ask such a thing. Depeche Mode:

  • are exactly 3 times more prolific than New Order

  • would never put out an atonal, non melodic pile of shit like 'Rock The Shack'

  • would never play 3/4 of an entire show out of key (like on the PFD video)

  • would never return after nearly nine years with an album that is scientifically rated a 6/10 with half of it as rank filler (Someone Like You - how shitty is this song) - we even get to look forward to some shit ass remixes on the upcoming single.

  • would never look as dorky as Barney skipping on stage at Reading

I mean DAMN - Get Ready isn't even as good as Michael Jackson's new album 'Invincible' and I have NEVER been more in anticipation of a new album in MY LIFE than Get Ready.

Now, I'll give the boys credit - Vicious Streak is sublime and Turn My Way is one AMAZING song and hell, New Order are the SECOND GREATEST BAND THAT EVER EXISTED IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC!!!

...but we must remember, New Order will always remain Depeche Mode's runner up in the pantheon of great music. The best New Order album is nowhere near as good as Depeche Mode's fourth best album.

opinions welcome

I wonder, Pointy Blenkinsop, if all the fluids pumped into you during your formative years at public school have gotten into your brain and turned it into marsh mallow, or even shit! Depeche Mode have always been mere white trash, nancy boy white trash at that, and are clearly nothing more than a poor mans Crankies!! :smoking:

You may have missed the pointdexter of the topic 'Depeche Modular are filthy shite hawks'... in simple terms pointy nose - Depeche Mode have done some marvellous shit over the years and are ranked alongside such bands 'like' New Order and always have been. Some real tip-top quality since the early eighties (after Vince Clark taught them how to write songs and fucked off with Andy's Bell-end).

The real question is this Duck face... Since the legendary 'Vibrator' album of 1990, have the fuckers been on a quality slippery slide seeing one member leave through malnourishment and Dennis Gaahnnnanhn implode taking the best part of his splein with him. The evidence, I'm afraid to say, is there for us all to see and hear and potentially not enjoy. The 'Bullet from my friends Gun' was a decent song but the album it escaped from was rat shit. Their most recent release was, and I'm sure you'll admit... wank. 'Freelove jack City' was average yet was the only song with any cred. off this piece of poo.

'Getting Things Ready' sees the Order once again eclipse Deputy Mode Givers as they did in the eighties and the nineties (mmm)... now - unless they start crafting a bit of decency the best thing for us all now to look forward to is their own demise.

Why don't they just open their own small business selling lighters in the town centre.

I MAY BE RUNNING YOU CLOSE IN THE COMEDY NAME STAKES,BUT I'D HAVE TO TRY A LOT HARDER THAN I NORMALLY DO TO RIGHT AS MUCH GOBBLEDEGOOK AS THAT.

Wow, I can't believe the overwhelming use of name calling in this room. As I may disagree with whomever in here - I would never stoop to any name calling tactics. As a new member of this board, I pledge that none of my posts will be laced with such meanness. I wish others could act as maturely.

I mean saying my brain is shit and calling me duck face. You two remind me of the highly disaffected youths that shoot up kids in high schools that get taunted for playing too many role playing games. Just because you or anyone else here is an outcast, does not mean that we have to call each other names.

I wish others could debate topics in a mature manner such as myself.

PJ name calling is all part of this diseased board. Huntsman in fact had an entire spell being labelled as Cuntsman.

In reply to your original comment, i've found that Depeche probably release too much material-The last couple of albums particularly seem to have had 1 or 2 decent tunes then a lot of substandard shite.

I did like Enjoy the Silence mind.

Chill Pointy!! Don't take the hump at such trivia, these things are merely the welcome mat being rolled out in your honour, being a newbie you won't realise that yet but you'll learn. :p

Just one thing Seb - I've called you Briggsy in the past and now I do feel guilty as (surely) you know I never ever intend any malice. What can I call you? - I don't have the capacity to just call you your own name... I do try.

Depeche Mode vs New Order. A debate that I had no less than 2 weeks ago wih one of my mates. He was for DM and I was for the Order. He lost and here's why.

So, let's start with the facts: Depeche Mode sell more records

Right, lets move on to opinions (facts if you ask me but I'm feeling generous):

New Order simply make better songs:

Get Ready has been slagged off as an album of fillers but does the latest DM album have any songs as good as Crystal or Turn My Way? Nope. Blue Monday, True Faith, Your Silent Face, Regret, Temptation, 1963. DM have made some brilliant songs but none which match this random selection of NO's finest moments. Enjoy The Silence which is many people's favourite actually sounds like New Order!

New Order are more influential:

Now I know DM have a huge electro influence but with regards to dance music and the indie/dance crossover in this country it's New Order who were the real pioneers i.e. Blue Monday. The Hacienda etc.

New Order are cooler:

No need to elaborate on this one surely.

New Order are better live:

Only basing this on the most recent tours of either band but this was the case.

So, in summary then. Depeche Mode are a great band but they're no New Order. But then again, who is?

Huntsman, My missus calls me 'the python' if that helps...

Huntsy, with your manic imagination mate, I'll leave it up to you..youre right though, I'm not a huge fan of 'Briggsy'

Okay snakey... I'll attempt to coin a particular phrase for you that neither causes offence or is politically incorrect-o-mundo. I did fear that Briggsy was a poor offering by myself... so predictable it stank like old butter.

To me, amongts many things, NO made the kind of music that makes you so excited you wanna do some yourself (see Like A Doberman...).

NO's music and attitude is, as weird as it may sound, incredibly sexy. It has class and at the same time sounds almost incidental.

You can't really understand how those 4 people managed to do this and that's the beauty of it, the inner magic.

I respect DM but lack that magic.

Do you agree with this, Huntsy and the others ? Did I make myself clear with my bizarre English ?

You are right of course Geoff. As always.

the fact that you can sing along to Barney and sound virtually exactly the same helps as well

Your singings not that bad is it Snake?

Buster I got very into DM when I was a teenage tearaway and purchased a pair of white jeans and black t-shirt. It was very surprising that in 1996 David Baloon was still wearing the same shit... whereas I outgrew mine around 1989 and thus handed the rags into 'Save the fucking children'. (the black t-shirt was saved for painting exercises in the house).

The first ever song I did myself was with a band called Chapter II... we covered 'Photographic' and I've still got the bastard on tape. So I find I like to cover them as well as New Order, tell you the truth, DM are easier musically.

When all said and done though, New Order cut through a light shaft shining in through a broken and torn curtain like a mystical and mythical wizard with the ability to create life on a spoon, whereas Depeche Mode are alright in your car if you forgot to bring any other cassettes.

With this 'massive' revelation Seb, don't you think it's time you renamed yourself 'Monty the Python' on this forum in an effort to avoid any unwanted name remixes?? I for one can't wait to see what the Hunting man would do with that one! :smoking:

Well, personally, I changed my name on this board to get it more in tune with Huntsy's remixing.

Guess I should have made it Buster Klumpy...

Are you saying that your parents named you 'Pointy Chin' and you grew up not wanting to shoot THEM?? Shooting up kids would actually be a step up for a skurvy knave like me, at this time of year I get great pleasure dressing up as Santi Clause and releiving the kiddies of their hard earned treats with my high pressure water pistol! :smoking:
