Right then, which is New Orders finest album? Opinion will no doubt vary wildly but nonetheless it is time for the faithful onliners to decide once and for all which is best. I think the trouble with Low-Life as an album Jarvo is the lack of the full version of TPK and for me a poor running order. Cracking songs though.

I can only judge the record on the basis of the record not having your vast experience of global gig attendance. The reasons I consider it a rock record are:-

The predominanve of crashing guitars allied to the dominance of the guitars as lead melody lines,with synthesisers providing more in the way of background atmospherics.less sequenced basslines less programming less synthesizers.

The production of the drums and the structure of the drum patterns is a lot less machine like than on say 5-8-6, YSF,The Village the all time greatest NO track of all time. which adds to the rocky feel.Whereas the clattering percussion on P.C.L. and Technique is much more geared towards the dancefloor.

The vocals are a lot less abstract and tend towards a more narrative aproach and are mixed higher up, which adds to the feel of a more traditional song based structure. Love Vigilantes was probably the first NO track where I thought more about the story than the mood of the Lyrics.

Hope you don't read this an attack on Low Life (as I did rank it third)or on your goodself. I did toy with the idea of deleting the first part as it sounds a bit facetious.I decided to add this instead.Alan Jarvis has always struck me as a dead sound bloke who's opinions and attitude I would hold up as a fine example of how to live your life apart from his allegiance to Oakie.and I mean that most sincerely folks.

Tongy's the A&R man for the bands remixes ain't he Is it a bit cynical to suggest that is why Someone Like You keeps popping up on the Essential Selection?
