I was just listening to some bootlegs (The Eternal, Preston; Komakino, The Lyceum; Ceremony and New Dawn Fades, final show; Disorder (with the siren), the Factory, et al.) and that's the conclusion I came to.
Joy Division kicks New Order's ass

After going to a club last night and hearing both JD (She's lost control, LWTUA) and NO (TPK 12", Truth Faith), I have come to the conclusion that NO makes far better dance tracks.
new order provided a realistic account of all sides of life in their music
joy division provided music for the trenchcoat boys to weep into a bucket whilst watching repeats of old frank bruno bouts

well David....that's why so many different bands exist...because there are so many different opinions...
I've said it before, and I'll say it again...if not for new order, I probably never would have gotten into JD...
and I'm not a big fan of the cure...but there are loads of people on here who are...
but I won't flame you for not liking the better of the two!!!:p

Actually, my opinion was formed late last night under some heavy intoxication. But I woke up today and, wouldn't you know? It still holds true (for me at least).

What's next, Movement is the best New Order album? :D
Face it, Joy Division / New Order.. it's the same damn band that lost a member in tragedy, one doesn't go without the other...
So let's stop splitting them!
I should maybe add Ian to the site logo...

then you'll have to change the site name to neworderjoydivisiononline.com

then you'll have to change the site name to neworderjoydivisiononline.com ah then you'll have the JD fans bickering that joy division should come before new order in the url.
Anyways I prefer New Order because of the wide variety. I can always think of a NO song to listen to on any occasion. As for JD, sometimes I cannot stand to hear Ian's dark voice.

Dunno if it's still in existence, but we used to have a popular mag in England called 'Smash Hits'. Said magazine was fabled amongst teenagers cos it printed out the lyrics of current pop hits, so The Kids knew all the right words to singalong with. However, they also used to do a guest feature whereby a 'famous' artiste would pick their favourite song, and they'd re-print the lyrics in whole in said mag. Some time in the mid-80's this article featured Robert Smith. And his chosen song? The Eternal.
Personally, I still prefer Every Little Counts though, Julio. :D

And I've still got that cutting, complete with the big Stockport fence photo where Steve is in his pinstripe shirt. Never did like the song, and the knowledge that fatboy Smith did like it compounded the distaste.
