"Bad news, lads..." Do any of you have audio of Peel's announcement that Curtis was dead? Does a copy of that show even exist anymore? (I'm only looking for that first little bit, possibly for future use  .)

Haven't got an audio of it but I'm certain that the "Bad news lads" quote is wrong. I can't remember Peelie's exact words but it wasn't those!

Correct, Peel wasn't so insensitive as to announce someone's death with "Bad news lads..." (this is the BBC after all) - the correct quotation is in Neil Woodvine's excellent (privately-published) chronicle on JD (he's still printing them as far as I'm aware). The quotation was something along the lines of "I never enjoy being the bearer of sad news to all of you listening at home, but sadly I have to be tonight: Ian Curtis of Joy Division committed suicide recently. Our sympathies go to his friends and family", etc. etc.

Thanks for the correction. Hadn't heard the exact quote before, just the oft-quoted one. Do you think the BBC still has a copy of the show in their vaults somewhere? It would be great to hear that. *cue Atmosphere*
