Best selling 12' of all time

we all know Blue Monday was the best selling 12' of all time, but how did it rank as far as best selling singles of all time?

According to the 1997 Guiness book of British Hit Singles it's the 11th best seller but it has probably slipped a few places since then.

Perhaps the web fettlers could invent another button that we can all click in desperate times of knowledge requirement that simply states 'Quiz the Muffler'

Along a similar note yet another button could be fitted which says 'Click for Crap' - at which point I would appear to help the world out. I could be summoned to resolve several of the worlds biggest problems... like defeating godzilla or the smog monster.

Yes Huntsy, tis beyond doubt that I am an eternal font of wisdom and useless information, I don't know where it all comes from, it's just there. With that in mind compadre may I suggest you stock up on fizzy drinks and assorted scooby snacks, there's a storm a comin', I can feel it in the air!!

You telling me you lost a dog?.. that's a fucking hard thing to take. As posted on several occassions I too lost a small friend - Stephen Grimley died aged 16 during the summer months and I still shed a tear. I built him a small monument to his memory... he was a very bizarre cat.

Yes, it sure is hard. It's funny how you can get more attached to a furry little bugger that can't even talk to you than you do to most people. I buried him at the bottom of my garden yesterday along with the rarest New Order record I had, (PCL multi coloured vinyl), as a symbol of how precious he was to me. He was called Barney you see, after Fred Flintstone's pal!

but remember one of the reasons it was the best selling 12" of all time was because it was released as a 12" not 7" single!!!!

how many copies were sold anyway? in a few of the recent articles there seemed to be a bit of confusion on this matter....12 million, 3.5 million, half a million copies (in the uk)...does anyone know the answer?

All I know is that it has'nt reached the million mark yet, but how far short of the million it is I don't know.

Snake, I'm a cat man it must be said but I do dig a dog if it'll chase a bit of wood for no apparent reason. Anyway, my bird's dad went on his hols the other week and we had to look after his ginormous rotweiler for a week!!! - fucking hell the bastard just sat in the kitchen stinking the whole joint out and I had to dance around him trying to cook the tea whilst he fucking growled at me! - When I finally got the lazy bastard off his arse and around the block for a walk he decided just to sit down and not move for about 20 minutes!!! - when I got back me bird said that he'd hit his mental 'wall' - as in, he got tired and when that happens he just sits still until his ready to move.

At least a cat can walk itself.

The Dog that I used to live with before I got all old and responsible and stuff used to love sticks. I'd take him for a walk in the forest and he'd find the biggest stick he could carry. He'd then wait until you walked past, run up behind you and smack you with the stick. Quality. I took the bird round to my mothers to 'dogsit' a couple of months ago, and took him for a walk- he still does his little 'trick' but on this occasion he shat on the end of the stick that wasn't in his mouth and tried to hit us with that...little git.

I was always under the impression this was a bit of an Urban Myth (that's Urban Leg-end to those reading this 5+hrs behind civilisation). I thought one of the Frankie (Says) 12" singles surpassed it?! Maybe not.

sure it recently said in mix mag or some other dance themed mag in a little articlet on the order that it was still the top selling 12"

one shop in the U-District here in seattle still has sealed, die-cut copies of Blue Monday lying around as well as Murder, and something else i'm forgetting. I personally have 2 copies of BlueMonday and a couple friends of mine also have 2 copies. Do they count the 83 + 88 releases or just the 83?

All the versions are counted as one, 83,88, and the pile of cack from 95.

.....and the 20th anniversary remix/re-release/re-edit/repackage due in 2003 presumably...... :(
