DVD Audio

Any news on whether we will ever see any NO or JD albums on DVD audio format?

These are the people who have not appeared in their last few video clips. I don't think so.

Has New Order a present ? they would have a present if they did not spend so much damn time in the studio.

If I understand the question, it's about those audio only DVD formats that are occasionally released (sometimes in full 5.1 dolby or whatever). If so I think the Joy Divvy albums are interesting enough sonically for this treatment - and possibly Technique.

They usually sell for slightly more than a full-priced CD, but as I've never actually bought one (only American old soft rock boring farts seem to release them).

I inferred the same as FDISK, those DVD-R audio CDs that the likes of The Eagles and ELP inflict on the unassuming public.

I was under the impression DVD Audio was a different format media to DVD Video. My Audigy 2 soundcard supports DVD Audio discs (as in the sample one I got with the card). But my DVD Video player doesnt wanna know

DVD Audio is a different specification. Unless you have a DVD player marked as being DVD-A compatible, then it's only capable of playing back DTS or Dolby Digital. Some DVD Audio disks will include Dolby Digital or DTS for compatability with DVD players but it's not true DVD-A.

The current spec. for DVD-a is a maximum 24bit, 96kHz which is intended to provide greater dynamic range and a more accurate digital translation or the recording.

The other multi-channel high fidelity format fighting to come out on top is SACD which also contains CD compatibile tracks(stereo only)fior use in a standard CD player.

Even though both are great formats and enjoyable to listen to, we'll have to see what catches on of if it catches on. I mean, if the majority of people are satified with these horrible sounding mp3 players then why would somebody want to spend money on a higher fidelity format? End rant... sorry...

my thoughts entirely Frank. Surely at almost 43 years of age, the gigling has surely been replaced with the whining and groaning that is expected at that age.

There's no problem with a good rant. It would be nice if the music companies would settle on formats together. You only need to look at DVD recorder formats to see how ballsed up it can become.

It's like VHS vs Betamax all over again. I wonder if it will be won on the same way? i.e. which one the porn industry adopts

Just this very day I have received The Flaming Lips' album 'Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots' which has an advanced resolution CD and a DVD which is DVD Audio for the album tracks in Dolby 5.1, DVD Video for the videos and has DVD ROM content. The DVD audio tracks must be played on a DVD audio player (or through SB Audigy 2 soundcard), the tracks sound phenomenal!!!! The resolution of the sound is unbeleivable compared to CD.

NOW thats a disc!!!!!
