Barney on the basses

I spent a happy hungover hour today watching the PFD DVD which arrived on Tuesday (cheers Nic for the link for that one!) and I noticed that in the opening Confusion, Barney plays his guitar part on a bass guitar. I never noticed that on the video, but it's about 10 years since I watched it!

Anyway, I now have two questions:

  1. Does Barney often play the bass during live versions of Confusion (he never played anything the only time I saw it live - MEN Arena 1998)?

  2. Does he play his guitar parts on a bass on anything else?

Someone (Tim) will know I'm sure.

Barney played his BASS part on a bass during Confusion, at all gigs. It wasn't a guitar part. Hooky played lead guitar and then a bass solo at the end. It was Barney's own bass as well, rather than one of Hooky's.

In the JD days, he played bass on Sound of Music and Atrocity Exhibition.

On 5 11 he played the bass part when Hooky was fetching another beer at the beginning of a song. I think it was YSF. Remember, he goes "Where's Hooky?"

he´s also quoted as bassist on Breakdown, from Electronic´s album Twisted Tenderness.

Cheers all. I also noticed (being an idiot) that I put MEN, when I meant Apollo - doh!

By the way, did he play bass on Atrocity/Sound of Music on the album versions too? It's amazing how these things pass you by.

Yeah, he used that red Yamaha sometimes, but he also had his own natural wood Yamaha as well.

I think Hookey was playing the base there, we just didn't see him.

Check the 9802 documentary on 511. There's footage of Confusion from the Apollo gig in 98 and Barney is DEFO playing bass there.

Or rather, just thumbing it.. .

Oh bollocks. Good point Al. (Note to self: check your facts before posting crap on the web).

Do you ever wish you never started something?
