At another forum I'm a member of, we have a thread about people leaving various music groups for one reason or another. I posted that Gillian left NewOrder and got several replies from people saying they didn't know NewOrder was even still around.
Do we live in our own little universe?
Yeah, people here in the states are pretty ignorant of the rest of the world. Especially when it comes to good music that really matters. Sad but true.

In all seriousness, the only way most anyone would notice NO in America would be if they did one of the hip shows on MTV (I believe they used to show music videos once, but I can find no historical record as such :D ), which of course would be difficult seeing as the last time they were really on American pop charts they shared the charts with New Kids on The Block, Gerardo (Rico Suave), and Nirvana (I'm pretty sure Regret was big in the States, I could be wrong). I personally would like to see them get some more recognition, but not at the expense of what makes them great: their musical individuality. That's just my two cents

This thread reminds me of a few days ago when I was having a drink with a pal in this little restaurant/bar up in Canada and some guy (must have been in his 40's) comes up and compliments me on my swell Movement shirt. He proceeded to say how he'd been a fan of the band since the beginning, how he had all the albums, how he liked Joy Division better, and how he saw NO twice during the 80's (once at the Commodore in Vancouver and once in Toronto) and was very disappointed with them live each time. So anyway, he made some comment about how I probably don't get a lot of people coming up and complimenting me on my slick duds, seeing as none of the young people nowadays give two fucks for the New Order. I said he couldn't be more correct, especially in the States (I momentarily forgot I was in Canada) and Canada. Yes sir, then he said cheers and went on his way. I should've invited to buy him a pint, but my non-NO-listening friend no doubt would've been lost by the ensuing conversation. And now you know...the rest of the story.
I don't think NO could do an Unplugged show. Does Barney play an accoustic guitar, Hooky an upright bass, and Gillian a piano, and they attempt to not use ANY synthesizers, emulators, or any electronic equiptment? But, do they really need to be seen on MTV nowadays, especially with fabricated groups like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan? I'd rather see them on NJN on On Tour, but that isn't even broadcasted any more
unplugged! why not? barney DOES play acoustic guitar, specially recently (Sabotage, Run Wild, Soundtrack, Player in the League...), hooky has his electroacoustic Eccleshall and someone played the piano on We All Stand on the peel sessions (maybe Gillian). so why the hell not?
although MTV involved... i´m not sure 
as for the songs, there´re plenty of them that could turn acoustic: As It Is When It Was, Love Vigilantes, Leave Me Alone, Regret, Run Wild, Guilty Partner (to name a few)..... Ceremony!

New Order unplugged, with no sequencers would expose them as being quite weak musically, although i love em , GOD BLESS EM

And, if it is any kind of saving grace, 91X here in San Diego is very good about keeping NO/JD much alive. It is my experience, especially in the mornings that they play at LEAST one NO or JD song during my morning commute to work. This is a very good thing folks.

You're lucky, here in the UK it's like they've forgotten JD or NO have ever existed. They never get played on the radio or on the music channels on TV. What's a good-music-loving girl to do?

Go to www.91x.com and login to their webcast in the mornings (Pacific time) and all day on Sunday and you'll here some of it girly.
True Faith still gets played on crappy local radio for some reason. Radio (we control the charts) One decided playlisting of the Get Ready singles would ensure I only heard the tracks about once per millenium on the radio. Maybe if it was Tru Fayfe it might get played on Radio (rap bollocks) One! 
Talk about different universes. In America, our President George W. Bush has put the proposition of a New World Order, and that has nothing to do with good music from any side of the ocean. A possible hegemony from this fool in full regalia is no laughing matter. It'll make you wish you heard of New Order and their music.

Nobody has to listen to the radio. It's not as if it is important, is it ? We know we have good taste, most of us anyway, who cares about hearing the band on the radio when we already have the records ? Or have I been missing something these last 20+ years ?
