Hello all.

Im heading over to manchester soon and hope to get in the saville show :-) but dont know one end of the city from the other [it being my first time], so as a non native, i was hoping someone of you could tell me wheres the best area for sourcing good records (shops / areas)- espically new order! As a fan of a meagre 3 years, im not lookin for specific bootlegs/rarities, just good shops with good no/jd stuff you wont find in HMV or crumby old dublin-12inches/concerts/ etc

Any help would be really nice

Have a look at this guide: www.vinylvulture.co.uk/pages/digger-manc1.htm

Amusing if not a little contentious. If you head for Oldham Street which is off the main square called Piccadilly Gardens you can't go wrong.

Recommended places to visit are Vinyl Exchange - Oldham street (they have a great vinyl section downstairs in the basement). Vinyl Revival - just nearby on Hilton Street is also a good place - albeit a little pricier for Factory collectibles than Vinyl Exch - plus VOX POP, which is found in the basement of a boutique called Cafe Pop - formerly a ground floor beatnik cafe - has a great vinyl section likewise. There is also a very good shop outside of the city centre in Chorlton on Wilbraham Road called KINGBEE RECORDS - it was here that I picked up some great Factory 12" rarities at even cheaper prices than Vinyl Exchange. Manchester has loads of specialist shops - there must be about two dozen in the city centre alone. Most of these are found in the same area as Vinyl Exchange/Revival - just have a walk up and down the nearby streets and you should come across a few of them. Whatever you do though, avoid a shop called "Factory Records" on Church Street like the plague - despite nicking the graphics off Peter Savile, this shop has sod all to do with anything Factory at all - it's just a dance music specialist shop....
