Went to see the band Xiu Xiu tonight in Bellingham. Turned out the concert was in some guy's living room and it was just the lead singer. Anyway, I was wearing one of my slick Joy Division shirts (for which he gave me props) and while all the little indie kids sitting on the floor cried between songs, I asked if he would play Ceremony. However, he said he had a policy of not playing live any song much, much better than anything he could ever write. Reasonable excuse, I thought.

Cried between songs? What on Earth are you on about?

Actually I saw one girl cry during the middle of one of the songs. These wan indie kids wear their emotions on their sleeves. I would've laughed, but I was too busy smiling broadly at the lovely song.

You? In a house full of vulnerable weeping indie girlies? what were they thinking of?

Yeah, they shouldn't have let me through the front door. Especially because I didn't pay.

That JD shirt is one hell of a good luck charm
