New Order songs - wacky live versions

Its interesting to hear NO songs live at early stages in their development. Just got a copy of Glastonbury 81 - Everythings Gone Green is out of this world. Likewise, Blue Monday went through various live incarnations - the short version circa '83, the cowbell version 85ish and the BORING version 88 onwards....The Western Works version of Truth is bloody eerie too....(not, strictly speaking, live tho')

Anyone else have any 'different' live improvisations that they prefer?

Well, the BM/Love Reaction incarnation was fabulous. And I do recall some interesting version in 89 in believe...not sure exactly where though...but I believe it was Irvine Meadows.:thumb:

Don't know what the appeal is of that one to you Shug, he's done that loads of times !

Getting someone on stage to sing Cries and Whispers at Montreal 83 was a bit surreal (announced as Hooky's brother), as was Damon the Roadie and John Simm at Finsbury.

Reminds me of the "Tourette's Shouty Mixes" that Barney sung for every other live rendition of Close Range in 2002!

I think it was Mr Giles who coined the 'Tourette's Mix' phrase.

I just added the Shouty bit to bang the message home.

Maybe in Oz, not sure, but certainly at some of the Euro dates summer before last, Barney just started SHOUTING OUT THE LYRICS instead of singing them. Mildly amusing.. .

Weirdo is the funniest thing I've ever heard them play. The way Barney just shouts at the top of his voice has me in tears every time. I know he's done it before - but NOT like that.....magnificent!!!

there have been some great live renditions of face-up..where the barnster gets/got so excited. made up lyrics, stupid faces, top of the voice antics, and the best "whoops" he could muster

Any of the Joy Division tracks are wacky, Barney ain't got the voice for em.

But I agree with Paul, Face Up seems to have been messed up most
