As you all know Peter Hook and Clint Boon were in my hometown last night for a DJ set. I was there covering for NOOL ;) , along with Elias who was the official NOOl photographer, I must say he did a great job . I don't want to keep you waiting so I'll tell you a bit about the event.

The bad news is I didn't get an interview, it was impossible under the circumstances... Way too many people and way too loud music.

The good news is that George Fakinos, the greek DJ who organized everything, introduced me to Hooky :nod::D and we talked a bit, mainly about NOOL and Community. Peter knows this site and he has visited it in the past :thumb: ! I told him about the tribute album we're preparing and gave him a cd that contains all the songs taking part in the community contest. He seemed pleased to hear that and said he would listen to it and contact us to let us know what he thinks of the covers!!!!

I also asked him if he would be interested in doing an interview here at NOOL and the reply was positive! So I guess we just have to wait for an e-mail :D

The photos will be posted later today (right Nic?)

I have to say that last night was one of the best times I ever had! :D:D:D

Well, that's it for now! I've got to get some sleep before I collapse... I'll be back with a more detailed report later

Well... I m not the webmaster, or the modarator, so i can just put one pic here. We re gonna have to wait a little for more ;) . So, all i can say now is why i chose this particular one out of 24 i totally have:
First of all its not quality pic, that's for sure, its bad centered, not to mention we all look terrible (me for example i look at least 10 kilos fatter - lol). BUT... if there's one pic that tells the whole story thats the one :). We re all in this one: Hooky, Sophia, me (sophia's assistant), Thanasis (my assistant - lol, the guy with the white shirt), and of course Clint boon (the guy top in the left for those who arent familiar with Inspiral Carpets)... Impossible form me to say it all in one post... I ll be back for more later :thumb: .

Was Hooky attempting to grasp Feline's breast?!?!?!:eek3:

:laugh::laugh: Nah... He was just holding me so I wouldn't fall down. You see the DJ booth was kinda small and I was standing on one leg while bending backwards!

Well well well... Time for me to finish my job i guess and send my report ;). Like we said before we didnt go there just as fans, but also as something like as "journalists" . (btw i wanted to become one when i was 16  ).

The plan was a simple one: Sophia was about to talk to him (or even interview Hooky if that was possible) and of course, hand him the CD with all mp3s participating in the community (thanks Nic and Mike for ure assistance here). My job was basically 2 things: Taking pics, and writing a small report here (and also to calm her down cos she was kinda stressed :D). So i thought i d be a good idea to get an assistant myself, and that was Thanasis, my best friend, a big NO fan too and a bass player himslef :)

We arrived at the "arthouse" club a little before 8:00 pm. George Fakinos was there, he had put our names on the guestlist, so we met him, and he made everything in his hands to release the pressure off us, telling us not to worry about a thing, just wait, enjoy the night and he 'll do anything in his power to make sure we ll meet Hooky later (and Clint Boon, cos we are all also Inspiral Carpets' fans as well). I think we all owe him (George) a very Big THANKS :thumb:.

Until 10:00 pm, George was DJing alone. My "assistant" arrived at that time, doin his bit at realeasing the pressure on us ;), and around 10:15 the guys showed up. By that time, the club was already full (as u can see on the pics its not a big place, so 100 pll barely fit) and we had already our first 3 pints . Clint Boon walked into the DJ booth while Hook was still very busy talkin to his fans, posing for pics and sighnin autographs :).

At 10:30 Hooky joined in, replacing George who now was outside, standing by for any assistance might be required. Clint Boon was basically doin all the job Hooky was only telling him what he wanted to hear, but basically he was playing with the audience, singin along with them, especially when Clint was putting NO/JD songs on. And what about us? Nothing much i was basically occupied taking pics, while the rest were keeping me company at consuming more alcohol :)

By around 1:00 am, Sophia made the first contact. She will tell u more details, but all i can say here is that he seemed very interested in the site, and especially interested in the community project. Sophia was able to pass him the CD with the mp3s a bit later, and Thanasis almost cried when he passed over Hooky and said hi, and Hooky's reaction was to hug him ;)

By 2:00 am i had spend all my money on alcohol, and took most of the pics, so when i got back to the car to get some more money, i decided to relax, and act like a fan istead :) At that time everyone was drunk already (incuding Hooky and Clint) and the scene was like this: 100 ppl singing alond, bouncing, gone wild . The guys didnt refuse anything to anyone (thats how we got the pics with them). Sophia managed to have another chat with him :)

As for me between the constant bouncing, i was asking Clint Boom to put on some old Inspiral Carpets songs "joe" and "she comes in the fall" in particular. Of course, he didnt say no :) Not only that, but he gave away around 20 cds of his band, plus 5 gigantic posters, signin on every one of them. By that time, the clubs beer supplies were over, and Hooky wasnt DJing anymore, seeming to enjoy the night and his contact with the fans. Somehow we all became one big company!!!

We left at 4:30 am, too exhausted and drunk to stand up to our feet :D. What can i say, this is a night than nobody (from those who were here) will be able to forget ever. As for me i was too glad to find out that the ppl i adore as artists, they 100% deserve it, not only as artists. And thats what i said to both of them :)

Oh and as for what kinda music they played apart from their bands, i ll just name a few: Happy Mondays (loads), Stone Roses, The Clash, Madness, Morissey and the Smiths, Iggy Pop, Puressence, James (for whom they said the best words), Oasis, The Doors, Rolling Stones, Buzzcocks, Suede, The Doves, Chemical Brothers, Beats International, The Specials, Depeche Mode, The Charlatans, Pixies, Pulp etc. Exacktly my kinda music selection ;)

I am amazed people can get so excited about someone playing records.

Not getting excited because hooky was spinning records. Elias and Sophia manage to give him cds of the tribute project we're working on and talk to him about it. Plus we're excited that they were able to meet him and have some fun. Whether you care or not about that. it doesn't matter.

That's either a very good party or piss-poor planning. Sounds like a party to me...

WHATEVER!...spending a night in a small bar in the presence of Peter Hook while having a great time with friends is NON ESSENTIAL?

Wow - great job and congrats to all involved! :thumb: I almost shudder to think what Hooky might say about Community, but it would be great if he does give a little feedback! Great job again  CTB :bear:

Pics and Elias' comments:

These are the first pics i ve taken. Not anything really, Hooky has just got in and talks with fans, signing autopraphs etc etc

Here we have Hooky and Clint in their "workin" place, its around 10:00 pm , and the party 's starting :)

The party's heating up. Boon plays "60 mph" and Hooky plays with the audience :)

Its around midnight. "love will tear us apart". Hooky sings it along with 100 ppl in the audience...

A lil more fooling around. Hooky is definetaly enjoying himself, as all of us :)

Clint Boon joins the party for good, even though he's more occupied than Hooky. U see he's the one who's actually DJing, Hooky basically keeps him company ;)

Its around 2:00 am. "World in motion" and the guys sing for England...

My fav part: Its our turn now to have our pics taken with lads. No comment on how we look - lol.

These are the only pics im not responsible for, hence their bad quality ;). But, they re my favourites (apparently). The guy with the white shirt is my best friend, also a NO fan, who was my "assistant" yesterday. Considering i was Sophia's assistant, that makes him the assistants' assintant i guess :)

These ppl on these pics with the guys i dont know. But this is how it all ended up at that time (around 3:00 am). We all became a big company. Brilliant !!!

The guy on these pics with Hooky and Sophia is George Fakinos. He deserves the highest credit possible, not only because he was a major assistance to all that, covering for us and always willing to do anything in his power to help us, but because he was a very good DJ as well. He made a great DJ team with Clint Boon (and Hooky, although like i said he was more interested in meeting ppl - not that i can blame him of course). Well, that was all. I dont know if these pics are any good really, i know i did my best, but what more important, is that this was a night we all are definetely going to remember. Not only us, the club owner as well, cos i have to say that by around 3:00 am the club's beer supplies were over if that tells u something ;) Hope that Hooky will remember it too, and maybe come back here again for more, with the band to play live this time :)

Quite happy it turned out well.

Seems to me some people owe me some beer in Baltimore and Greece these days

Glad to see that NewOrderOnline can benifit to some members, and I'm quite happy to know Mr Hook managed to get a copy of Community in the rough...

As for an interview, I can now tell you that it came VERY, very close to have a live chat with Peter on NOOL, I was told to don't say a word about it, but somehow I never got news, that was when Retro was out, it could have been fun, but if we are contacted by someone, we'll try to get Hooky's comments on the tracks when the final 15 will be selected, that would seriously be nice..

But we don't know, maybe the CD is somewhere in the club today.. I can understand how many people must try to give demo CDs to popular artists, I won't mind if he lost it, but it's nice to know he actually had it ;)

Good for you. I'm fortunate enough to be able to get passes, guestlist , general liggin etc. The last one was indeed with Mr Hook, at the Avalon gig with Hybrid , I was the guy who delivered his Manchester Evening News for anyone who was at the soundcheck. The best part of the night as far as me and Mrs garymac were concerned, was the sheer enthusiasm of Peters fans, both young and old, some of whom may have been NOOLers ( we witnesed a few groups of people who seemed to be meetin for the first time ). I always fear that one day I may take things for granted, but I doubt it'll happen. I can be cynical about most things 'cept my tunes ... they are essential. Glad you enjoyed it and I hope the opportunity arises to have some more..... it's essential innit. Keep the faith, rock esta nocha. Gary Mac

Great read and quality piccies (Sophia looks luvverly) but did anyone ask Hooky (1) How's the new album coming along, and (2) You doing any gigs?

:eek3:

I just hope he doesn't call me a "cunt", "fookin' bastard", or whatever along these lines, after listening to my cover of "Paradise".

Nice to know everybody had a great time there. :thumb:

Errrr, no... Well at that point we didnt do too good, although i doubt if we would get any answers to that better than "maybe" or "i dont know for sure". And tell u the truth, who could blame the man in that case ;). On the other hand we thought it would be highly unseemly, not to mention almost rude, to ask him that under the circumstances (while the party was on its peak) about that. I would love to even beg him to come to play live in Thessaloniki (cos i ve never seen them live :( ), but this would probably ruin the wonderfull moments we were having. Like i said, we pretended to be "journalists", above all we fans and that moment we were having a terribly good time :) Hope if he agrees to go in an online interview here, will answer all these if he wants. ;)
