Here's a possible explanation about why the demo ("detail") version of 'In a Lonely Place' by Joy Division is cut off after the second verse:
Ian wrote an absolutely horrible last verse--perhaps about something wonderfully cheerful about puppy dogs and ice cream and warm summer days, or maybe worse--and it just didn't fit the rest of the song. So they cut the demo version off before that verse and Barney made up the last verse (much like his reinterpretation of the lyrics to 'Ceremony') when New Order gave it a proper recording. This would've been done to save the legacy of Ian's lyrical genius from notable embarrassment, and thus the lyrics printed everywhere (such as in Debbie Curtis' book, which prints Barney's version of the 'Ceremony' lyrics) are actually only 2/3 belonging to Ian.
