They're all crackers, but ICB for me. Turn the lights out, pour yourself a double vodka, slam the Peel Sessions (vinyl) version on and admire. This is an audiophile masterpiece.

went the way of Sooner Than You Think, but just wish one of the recorded versions of Confusion could have captured the power of the early live versions, & it owuld have been there!!

EGG is clearly underrated, but I had to vote for ICB because the whole Movement album is underrated! (It's a better song than The Him, for example.) Close Range is also one of the 4 best songs on Get Ready, so that came "close" too.

EGG: it has the unfortunate distinction of coming in between two masterpieces (Ceremony and Temptation) and thus often gets ignored by even the devoted, nutcase fans (not to mention the fair-weather ones)

Oh, I don't know about that Tabsy, at least from what I've noticed, but then I've always played the 12" quite frequently, so I may be a bit biased on that view.

My vote went for Close Range.

Confusion. I always thought it was a better dance track than Blue Monday. And the '87 version is seriously overlooked.

EGG for me. Bring it back live Mr Sumner.

Dunno how "underrated" STYT is: I recall the Melody Maker that came out the week of Reading '93 had a big feature on the band, and they reckoned it was their finest moment ever. Got a feeling it was written by well-known Order devotee Paul Lester (currently, I think, co-editor at "Uncut").

In case anyone's wondered what the "Alex Staszko gig request mix" is all about, most UK bootlegs between 1983 and 1987 have a lone voice shouting "We All Stand" in between songs. That was Alex (or his inflatable skeleton Ian). It never mattered if they'd already played it in the set, he still shouted it anyway !

I reckon EGG gets plenty of credit (1st attempt at learning how to produce/last production with Hannett/1st time the 7" was edited down from the full version/etc, etc) so I'll go with Guilty Partner which tends to get lost amongst brighter stars on Technique.

My vote goes to Confusion (the Substance version - way better than the original IMO).

i picked skullcrusher because i thought the live verions with the vocals were pretty good, they had some interesting guitar parts i especially like the version they opened up a show in amsterdam in 1984

Confusion. The original version,pre-substance is up there with Temptation. Its a real shame the live version is based around the 87 mix.

icb for me i agree the john peel version was definitely the best

M E S H not only it didn't appear even on Retro, but neither on this poll! And it's one of thier Top 5 for me! It's even been the name of A New Order Fan for a month...

I'll go w/Sooner, though it's not the most interesting song lyrically, it is beautiful to listen too and deeply unusual.

I was a big fan of everyone everywhere, but the live version of that has always left a bad taste in my mouth, it's absolutely horrible. One of the worst New Order tunes when it comes to "great" New Order songs that were performed live.
