What would stop you from being a neworder fan?

A few years ago if someone had said to me that Billy Corgan, Phil Cunningham and Bobby Gillespie would join/appear with the band and be credited on an album i would have been shocked (to the core!)

Had this happened much earlier in their history and i wasnt keen on the new band member it could have had a catastrophic effect on my love for the band.

What, if anything could the band do to make you renounce your support for them?

We've even had a Kylie remix and Rock The Shack and most of us seem to have survived that!! but what could possibly push you over the edge??

Good thread. I would say another collaboration with John Robie.

Hmmmm...recruiting either of the aforementioned jokers as a permanent band member, or worse still hiring Morrissey as a new singer. I'm sure there are worse permutations, but I'd rather not think about those !

Steven Hague. That guy has done nothing but piss me off and lead the band astray like Republic...YUK

I could never see Mac's ego fitting into a band who prefer the music to do the talking.....

I don't think that the use of a producer who screwed their sound up in the way that Robie did in the past would put me off New Order full stop - I'd still buy the product for the sake of completeness, but wouldn't listen to it very much. I'd be far more put off by the incorporation of permanent new band members who had their own particular musical identity, musicians who had previously been successful elsewhere and who now came to "add" something to the NO sound. Phil Cunningham doesn't count, as he is their live second guitarist. Can't see him songwriting with them, but you never know.

They would have to do something really, really bad awful for me to stop being a fan. Do you mean that I would renounce their entire work or just the new release??

If the new album sucks I will still love the previous work and the boots. But if they say, rape young boys, disfigure themselves through plastic surgery and lipsync while exposing their genitals and perhaps all of the above on television I might never listen to them again.

I'm a diehard. I can rationalise most anything. At this point, I buy any new record they might put out on faith. Even if I got a few that sucked real bad, I'd buy the next one because thats just the thing to do. "hey, look a new record from new order" "oh, yeah, didn't the last one blow ass?" "yeah it did, better check this one out."

If the evolution of New Order breeds of the work they did in "Get Ready" (which had its bright spots) I would be pretty disappointed and I would definatly think twice about buying anything of theirs if all we get are the cheesy cereal box lyrics and wannabe rock-rifts we heard in "Rock the shack" "Run Wild" or "Slow Jam".

If that's the future of New Order they should call themselves something else like "Rock Safely" or "The Responsable Adults"

perhaps if hooky left and was replaced by kenny g and his soprano sax.

Actually I can't see anything that would change my love of the Order. We've survived so so singles and albums. We've survived exceedingly long breaks between albums and touring. We've survived above mentioned producers and guest musicians, even Dawn Zee or whatever her name is (well I can live without her backup vocals).

Even if they did something totally crap there's still a huge wonderful body of work.

If they did an album full of songs like rock the shite and slow wank.

Well, actually, at the time Republic was released and there was barely a trace of Hooky on the record, I did completely turn my back on them. I had already been mightily pissed off to find that on the single, the newordermix (sic!!) of 'Regret' did not feature his bass AT ALL, and then the album seemed to confirm my worst fears.

Thankfully, their old work + a few bootleg records kept the flame alive .

Don't think anything could stop me being a fan. I'm stuck with them and I hope that never changes.

All concerts are alike with the over-repeated rituals and turning his own great songs into a laughing comedy that always fails. Songs that were so much a soundtrack to my youth it's too complex an issue to contemplate not liking them - Me, my life, them = yes.

Ok, they could say that Shellshock was the best thing they ever did - or State of the nation... But even then I doubt it, they've done too many great things.
