From "The Other Site": Hooky has a new side-project with Andy Rourke and Mani (maybe called Bassists 'r' Us or something...)!

What does this mean? The end of the road for NewOrder? The new album postponed or scrapped altogether?

WHY OH WHY WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS?????????????

This was being discussed the other day but is it actually legit? If so maybe DELAYS only and not the end of the ORDER. Otherwise we will all have to start posting at NNOOL.... NO NEW ORDER ONLINE!Then will start posting crap about what a great band they were...shit that's what i do already. Sorry

If Hooky had a side project going with bassists he would've asked me by now.

I reported this from a Brighton Magazine 'The Source' here on Wednesday, see under thread 'Hooky, Mani and Andy' below. He probably cribbed it off here, as I don't suppose he gets to Brighton much (I hope not anyway)

And how much credibility do you place by The Source?

Oh damn. Is Hooky that bored already with New Order, or what? They even haven't performed together for 1,5 year, so what's the deal? Instead of bringing bright ideas to a new New Order release, he............................ Wake me up when a new record will come up. But all in all, it means there's something wrong within their inner cicrle as band. A bad sign...:eek3:

i'm not sure it does mean there's something wrong within the "inner circle". i honestly can't believe anything will ever come of Hooky, Rourke and Mani's alleged alliance. I would pay enormous sums to see The Stone Roses, The Smiths and New Order at the Manchester Apollo on my birthday, however.

Its bollox,as if Hooky would share a bassline with someone else.

To the above threads I'd say - I've no reason to disbelieve 'The Source' as it's an interview with Andy Rourke, not a 'hearsay article'. In it, assuming you've not bothered to read the original thread, Andy says he, Mani, and Hooky have been jamming in the studio and recorded 16 tracks, of which 8 have he, Mani and Hooky playing bass. Again, I've got no reason to disbelieve him. It doesn't say they're going to release it, although personally I'd love to hear it.

It doesn't surprise me that Hooky is 'playing away', he's a working musician, and he loves to play. I don't think this necessarily betokens the end of New Order, but I get the impression it's maybe harder for Barney to do it, and I'm not sure about Steve - he looked bloody miserable all the way through 516 - compare that to how he looked at Reading

according to the site newOrderargentina Hooky gave an interview to a greek site called Avopolis when he was there DJing. here´s the interview.... but in greek! :nonono: http://www.avopolis.gr/interviews/results.asp?ID=138 so Elias, Sofia, Labster: please translate it for us.

neworderargentina´s webmaster Maximiliano gave some clues about that interview: the band could be called Freebass or Stalingrad. also he declared that Atmosphere is the best song he ever wrote. ;)

Mani, on an interview by ManchesterOnline, said that the three of them got together in order to find out who was the best mancunian bass player. "We decided to find out once and for all who is the best bass player ever to come out of Manchester"

so all shows it´s true, which is bad and good news at the same time. a little more bad news because that means the next New Order album is in the freezer! and who knows until when

Andy Rourke is a washed up Junkie who's talent was questionable to begin with. Mani took part in one classic album and then basically became one of Gillespie's drug buddies. Hooky is the only one with REAL TALENT.

My guess is, Hooky's dying to make another record while Steve is busy being a good father and Bernard is busy with therapy after reading a couple harsh posts on these forums and may never perform again.

this is the translation of the interview i mentioned above (Avopolis site). thanks Elias for it! :thumb:

good morning Peter, what's worth mentioning in Peter Hook's world today? Hours and hours of recording of the new NO album, while im also writing songs for my side-project with Mani and Andy Rourke (ex-Smiths), which will be called Freebass or Stalingrad, we havent decided yet...As for the rest, i lay at home with my wife, my 3 children, my 2 dogs and my cat, or i keep myself occupied with the basement, changing it all the time

you keep hearing Joy Division's infleuence in today's music, where ever you´re going? No doubt about that... Everywhere...Me, Deborah and Natalie (Ian's wife and dauther) we re proud of our music legacy

whats the music on your DJ set? a bunch of old shite, with a couple of new diamonds i discover. You´ll see... why telling you now

What do you think of all this fuss with "Pop Idol" and the rest? Doesn´t they make you sometimes lose your faith in music industry? Music changes like cloth fashion mate! Go ask Darkness, they know better (laughs). Of course i have faith in music, otherwise i wouldn´t be here. As for the industry, lets just leave that...

Writing songs is it an everyday routine now, or you still facing the same dificulties, even though 25 years and more have passed since you started? This process is always difficult (painful), but knowing that your music will be listened my million ears, gives you courage, and the process transforms to something very pleasant. which later rewards you for the effort involved

The rest guys in the band say "True Faith" is your best song. You agree with that? Tell them to go fuck themselves. All our songs are fuckin great!!

best song you´ve ever written? Atmosphere !

Let´s suppose you´d be teaching bass lessons, how much would you charge? No way I´d do that. I don´t teach lessons

Who's the best bass player in the world right now? Me of course, with Mani and Rourkie

Well, that's cool, it sounds like there's NO stuff in the pipeline, and that the other stuff with Mani, and Andy might see the light of day ('give it a name'). Nice bit of iconoclasm from Mani putting Primals' Xterminator over the Ist Roses album 'cos they'd wanted it rockier! Explains the crap 2nd album then!

actually working on an album with his real band and not a side project.

Channel 4 (uk) teletext has a story on it today (10/02/04) states Hooky is playing with mani & roukey. The group will be called FreeBass or Stalingrad. The GOOD news is he`s doing it inbetween RECORDING the NEW New Order album,so we might have something before christmas.

Stephen Morris ought to follow Pete`s lead & form a supergroup of his own with ex-Oasis members Tony McCarroll & Alan White.

Just imagine the diversity of the finest supergroup of all-time: 'Little Drummer Boys'!!!

Robert Smith and Hooky in the same recording studio; I'm sure that one will turn out well.

I'm sure Hooky would like to do festivals this summer.. but since the album won't be ready, they will have to wait for next year... or go to Australia and Japan all over again.

Still we don't have any news on the "Duran Duran" collaboration... ;)
