The Stones have never been my cup of tea per se, I think I got into the Who first and that just made me less incline to like the other bad boys of the London scene. Also, Jagger's dimisal of punk (Townshend welcomed it btw) made me a little wary of the Mick-ster, but (like U2) just because I don't like the band doesn't mean I can't like their music. Paint It Black, Sympathy, and I Am Waiting are classic tracks....

As much as I slag the Stones on these pages, I like a lot of their early stuff, before Jaggers head found its way up his arse! 63-71 was brilliant music, anything after that is mostly shite, preffered The Faces and Dylan myself though.
It all started to go wrong with "It's Only Rock and Roll", then they hit the gutter with their post-Start Me Up eighties material. Mick Jagger just put out a solo album. Notice how no one's talking about it?....

There was a time when I used to play Salt of the Earth over and over and over, Muffman omg patrick me too! i went through a stage some years back when i listened to the stones every single day...and "salt of the earth" was definitely a favourite (well at least for a couple of days). the stones songs that i prefer tend to be the ones that no-one raves about, "out of time", "no expectations"(granted this one aint too hot but i still love it), "19th nervous breakdown", "moonlight mile", "heart of stone", "sister morphine"... a lot of people seem to like "angie", which i absolutely and passionately hate, reminds me of that "stairway to heaven" atrocity. though i`ve got a strange affection for 2 of their naffest songs; "miss you" stones go disco and "emotional rescue" stones go all Prince on us..

Spot on Shugster, all their best stuff was during that early period, 'The London Years'. I'm a bit more tolerant than you of SOME of the 70's stuff though but for the last 20 years they've been dire.

One of the songs I listed, "I am Waiting", was featured to very good effect in Rushmore, and it's been one of my favorites ever since. Angie's okay, not great, and Miss You's laughably listenable.

If I was to pick a favourite of theirs it would be "Get off of my Cloud", I also like "I am Waiting" so that's a good choice Tabsy
