Electronic vs Republic

I voted for Electronic in this one, just because i enjoyed this particular record more in total, even if it didnt have moments such as "regret" and "special" on it. Maybe it just seemed more "fresh" to my ears than republic, which sounded more like than something that "had to be done". As we know now, my impression then, was right ;). Anyway, even so, i d never want an Electronic track to be on a NO album or the contrary (although there are a couple which could be confused :D ).

I love Electronic's first album, it's a great debut, but I love New Order more, even if it's allegedly their low point. Sumner/Hook/Gilbert/Morris are just an invincible songwriting team, as much as I love the work of a certain Mr John Martin Maher.

republic? after 2 songs the cd returns back into the jewel...

Electronic is a far superior album overall. It runs smoothly. Republic is disjointed, rather like the band were at the time.

A pity....... but I voted electronic

Republic, simply because it has all 4 elements...even if they were working at separate intervals recording the thing. Don't get me wrong, Electronic is a great album, but without live drumming and some bass work, it just doesn't feel as full as a New Order album...

the first electronic LP is a much stronger album.

Electronic because it is mostly a "New Order" album since Barney had been working on many of the songs as "solo" material.

Hard to call this one,loyalty says Republic but i know deep down Electronic is better (its the best of the 3), so i`ve gone for Electronic because Get The Message is the best record any of the side projects has done.

I respect your opinion of course, but I've always considered Get The Message to be one of the weakest tracks on the album. But I can appreciate it now.

New Order, but reluctantly. Saying Republic is better than anything seems a bit of a stretch.

I like both albums, but Electronic makes more sense, because you don't have to listen for the bassline and Barney's rapping is better on it.

This was really easy for me, since I like Republic and Electronic is good but one of the least of the side projects (the following Electronic albums will be in fact truly excellent). Maybe only The Other Two And You is less good, they were both a bit weak... Anyway I must admit that One True Passion would have been my favourite album. It's already better than Republic, but just imagine those songs with all the four members, it would have been a serious contender for Technique and PC&L. I mean it. In the reissue booklet, Hooky admits his problem was he did the music first and the lyrics and vocal melody after, and actually the beauty of those songs is in the instrumentation, the power of songs like Pineapple Face, Slave and Surf Nazi is definitely in the melodies of the bass and the keyboards. Just imagine if Barney did the vocals with his immense talent for a good tune, then place Steve's superb drumming and some refinement to the keyboards by Gillian and Barney. Then replace a couple of the minor songs with stuff like Regret, Spooky and Everyone Everywhere. You have One True Republic and it's an absolute masterpiece! :)

That Electronic album is one of the best ever!!!

Feel every Beat, Tighten up, are just some classic songs. I can barely get the energy to workout without listening to those songs!!!

I just haven't been able to get into the side projects. Also, I liked Republic. So yeah, I say keep it as is.

No contest. Electronic is one of the most underrated albums out there, whereas Republic is good, but not much more than that. (Though it does of course have some outstanding moments.)

Barney's rapping sounds a lot better on Electronic, more carefree...and while experimenting is something JD/NO have always done well, experimenting with his stale-sounding rap on Republic is one experiment I wish they hadn't bothered with.

I had Electronic on the other day and my 3 year old goes "that's new order!".

I didn't have the heart to correct!

REBUBLIC for me but since i am a big PET SHOP BOY fan i loved PATIENCE OF A SAINT.But the four singles and the rest of the tracks after such a long time was very important to me.Now i have GOT READY i wonder what is next.Probably WAITING FOR THE MAN. :D

Patience of a Saint is a fairly good track and so is Disappointed, but I'm a PSB fan myself. Tighten up is also fairly good lyrically, and both Feel Every Beat and Idiot Country are more enjoyable to listen to as raps, rather than Times Change. Although Republic has EE, there is no "Gangster" or "Reality" on it. However, I do prefer "Avalanche" over "Soviet," and "Young Offender" is an underrated track that deserved more attention than Regret, which has always sounded too dull to my ears.

I remember the first time I heard Electronic on the radio...can't remember which song it was...but I called the station up and asked who it was...Wendy told me it was electronic...and I said something about it sounding like new order...and she told me it was Barney singing...

and that was how I found out about electronic...it's a true story...I promise!!!

I remember hearing Getting Away with It in 2000, the MP3 was labeled New Order featuring the Pet Shop Boys I was naive though ("Where's Hooky?"), and I pictured in my head a huge Traveling Wilburys-type recording sessions. My mistake.

Yeah, people's draws drop when they ask her what music she likes, and she rattles off Beatles, or Peter Gabriel, or New Order! Her peers are still doing Barney, but I had the foresight to intervene. Not that I'm allowed to play her Joy Division mind you, or anything dark which equals Cure, Depeche Mode, and some of the PG tunes (his third album).

I also found out about Electronic via the radio. LIVE 105 in San Francisco used to do these contests where they would play three songs with a thread, and callers had to figure out what it was. They played LWTUA, True Faith, and Get The Message, the latter of which blew me away. Sadly, NO CALLERS COULD GET THE CORRECT ANSWER. After 30 minutes the DJ had to announce that Barney was the link. Very sad, but I bought Electronic the very next day!
